I certainly never made the argument that NO good comes from religion.
I simply share the belief that threatening children with eternal damnation is tantamount to emotional abuse.
To address your post more fully, I don't think that anything good that comes from religion is unique to religion. I think any good that could come from religion is merely incidental.

We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.

I was raised active LDS as a child and knew about hell and it never trumatized me. To be honest, I was more traumatized watching the news as a kid. What if that stuff happened here? In fact I remember asking God to protect me from it. It seems like he did. Nice guy, that God.

What about teaching girls that no matter how great they live in this life, the best scenario in heaven will be being a polygamous wife bearing children for eternity. One third of your children will be sent off to outer darkness, the rest will be sent to a planet for a bizarre test few will pass so you will be left with a handful of your children returning while continuing to bear more.
So, living a great life basically puts a woman in hell for eternity.

I recommend the lower Celestial glory then. You still get godlike power but aren't married and don't have to worry about losing kids. It's win/win.

I wonder if God came through for those you were watching on the news that might have been asking for protection? Nice guy, indeed.

I'm guessing they weren't. Many of them in fact seemed like they probably wanted God to butt out of their life. Can they really complain that he did?

Oh? You could tell from a news story that people wanted God to not protect them and to get out of their lives? How were you able to do that, Nehor?
