I just did want to take a moment, too, to thank those who commented here. I appreciate you and your comments. This posted by skippy was of concern to me:

What's weird is the existence of the thread, ostensibly at Jersey Girl's request. I would expect her participation, at least, to clear the air so to speak. Why else request the thread? Otherwise, a simple "Change in moderating team - Jersey Girl isn't one" announcement would have been sufficient. Instead there's this odd thread with posts of support, and none of complaint.

Weird

skippy,

A couple of things I had in mind when I asked Shades to post this publicly were as follows. There have been two instances here where moderators dropped off without notice. I heard concerns of other posters regarding those events. I think that admin should announce changes in the moderation team publicly (and stated so on our moderator forum) so that people feel they are informed. If we fail to do so, we might as well be MAD where they regularly ban people without telling the community who continues to respond to them.

The other thing is this. I think that Shades comments give the appearance or impression that as a moderator, I acted with bias and lack of neutrality. Else why would posters complain to the tune of "critical mass"? It just seems to make sense. I don't know how it was received on the part of others, but I think the potential is there. If the appearance is created that I have acted inappropriately when assigned a task with bias as a motivator here, then I feel compelled to scratch below the surface of that appearance on my own behalf.

I told Shades perhaps months ago that I think that moderation should be fully transparent on a board like this. More recently, I expressed to him that truth is important to me.

Those are my motivations for this thread, skippy.

Over a year ago, I and others were fooled by appearances created by persons online. I won't let that happen again especially when the information needed is easily accessible to any and all who might be interested which in this case, it is.

I didn't mean for the thread to be of any concern. Of course notice of a change in the moderating team should be given. I understood that part.

The weird part was the way it was worded - the implication was that there was some overwhelming reason for the change without any actual information given (in which case, don't start the innuendo unless it's going to be supported). The implication was that you had requested that such a post be made in the manner it was made, and then no comment was forthcoming from you.

Just seems to me that instead of a mysterious allegation of wrongdoing, a simple announcement in change of moderation would have done just fine. It's just odd to half raise an issue.

Hi skippy,

I'm glad you saw my post. I didn't want anyone to think I wasn't appreciative of the comments they made here.

You wrote,

I was concerned about your perception of this thread and that's why I chose to reply specifically to you. I do think that changes in the moderation team should be announced publicly whether one chooses to supply details or not. In my view, this board should strive to stay as far away from resembling MAD as is possible. That is to say, it should favor of transparency over secrecy.

The weird part was the way it was worded - the implication was that there was some overwhelming reason for the change without any actual information given (in which case, don't start the innuendo unless it's going to be supported). I agree with your assessment of weirdness in that the wording did, as I noted earlier, give the appearance that some pervasive bias or what have you, colored my mod actions here. I will make an effort to scratch beneath the surface of that appearance. I will be commenting further as I have time.

Just seems to me that instead of a mysterious allegation of wrongdoing, a simple announcement in change of moderation would have done just fine. It's just odd to half raise an issue.

Yes, it's odd to raise half an issue. I will raise whatever I know from my end in supplying the other half. I do need time to collect things up from posts in favor of transparency over secrecy.

I don't see how you can ask me to take this at "face value".

I'm not satisfied with the way you handled this or with what you've stated in your OP, Shades.

It's wrong on a number of levels not the least of which is that it creates the appearance that I acted with pervasive bias and was such a screw up as a moderator that your PM box filled up over my error filled decisions.
