I think negative answers are coupled more with confusion then with being troubled about a decision. When you're still unsure about what you should do you're probably on the wrong course. When you're on the right course you may dislike what you have to do but it's clear to you what you should do.

So God never allows us to walk "blind" so we can learn to be sure of our own footing?

We're never abandoned?

He has, in cases where you get no advice, God wants you to make the best decision you can and move on.

That seems to contradict your previous statement:

When you're still unsure about what you should do you're probably on the wrong course.

Why would God want you to move onto something you're not supposed to be doing?

Because if you haven't found the right course yet and it's decision time and God gave ya nothing then according to Brigham Young act and God is honor-bound to back you up or pull the rug out at the last minute and tell you what to do.

Having military patrols in the area does not constitute being at war. Brigham Young was getting ready for Armageddon, licking his dictatorial chops over the possibility of a direct threat to his little petty serfdom. If it werent for the Mormons behavior, the US would have likely left them the hell alone.

Having military patrols in the area also isn't a way to decrease tension especially in an age where communication was a little more limited and the people involved have experience with quasi-military units attacking and looting them. WHY were the military patrols out there? Might it have had something to do with fear that the Mormons were a threat to them? Or that they were a boil of evil on the backside of the U.S. that needed to be lanced?

The Mormons were a threat to the individuals passing through the land they were/are squatting on. that's why they were there. Learn some history and objectively look at the situation for once in your life.

Edited to add:

The Mormons were a threat to every group they interacted with.

Mormon groups were dangerous idealists that believed they were living how god wanted them to live. Part of that meant bullying and forcing violence upon those who would not bow to them in land deals, economic conflict and theological ideas.

Mormonism should have been destroyed by the US army after MMM and those who justify its existence now should take pause at just how violent and marginalized the culture in utah was in the late 19th century southwest.

I hear you still let home teachers into your house. Your wife is a member, right? And so are you?

Okay, I just reread what I typed and I blame the painkillers. Sorry. I'll try again.

Because if you haven't found the right course yet and it's decision time and God gives you no inspiration then according to Brigham Young make the best decision you can and God is honor-bound to back you up or give you inspiration at the last minute and tell you what to do.

LMAO! Ok, I can relate to the painkillers. Sucks being on percocet for over a year. But I've reduced my need to "head exploding" times only. I'm sick of being a professional invalid, and I don't know what I'm going to do come third trimester...not safe to take.

Anyways...so this is supposed to be kind of like that "God won't give you any more than you can handle" line? He'll let you walk the tightrope on your own until he can see you're about to fall, then catch you?

I've never been fond of that line of reasoning...what about the damage to my heart that comes from proverbial tightrope walking?

God could have helped me when I was driving in DC yesterday...divine inspiration would have been really nice. I have panic attacks every time I try to get into or out of that city. The wheels of my car will never hit those streets again. METRO! All I got was yelled at by a parking enforcement asswipe and ticketed by him out of retaliation when I threatened to report him. I'm too tired to write my angry letter to Eleonore Holmes Norton right now...but God could have somehow given me enough change to make that eight minutes, or smitten the fat bastard who decided to follow me...

Where's the love?

Well, I think eventually you develop faith enough that you don't have to be so afraid....or so I'm told. I'm on Vicodin until this kidney stone passes. I just want to give birth to this bastard child so I can move on.
