So are you saying that when people say they will "vote with their feet" they aren't to be taken seriously, Scottie?

That's pretty much what I'm saying.

Thanks, Scottie. I'm framing your response because things are going to get a bit more interesting right now. You see, the excerpt that Shades posted from his PM's was just that, an excerpt. A series of 10 exchanges took place and while I have a personal policy of not posting PM's that people send me, I can tell you that Shades told me that one or more posters threatened to vote with their feet.

I have no problem whatsoever posting all 10 exchanges in their entirety should Shades be agreeable to that.

I agree with you that in most cases, posters who become disenchanted with one thing or another do threaten to vote with their feet and in most cases, they calm down and return to posting simply because they enjoy the process of dialogue on a board such as this. I used to do that alot on another board but learned to "sit on" those feelings for a bit.

What is a bit disconcerting to me re: what you've posted above is that some (seeming) minority group (apparently) has the power or clout to influence overall policy. From all I have seen of Shades's policies in action, I would have expected him to say something tantamount to, "We'll be sorry to see you go, but you are always welcome here at MDB." One wonders who might have issued the ultimatum? Bust Jersey or I (or we) walk. I personally don't really care who those posters were. The fact that the threat was enough to provoke its intended effect is what I find to be out of character for this board. (And this is coming from a guy whose board habits have, in recent months, almost completely flipped: rather than checking MDB sporadically and hanging out mostly on MADB, I now find myself doing the opposite. Sure, I wish we had more TBM's and other theist types here, but MDB certainly has, to my mind, even still, a greater diversity of truly competing opinions and beliefs than the other board.)

And, as far as I can tell, MDB has no special class (no Pundits, say). But this particular decision seems to have been inspired by a small group of posters with...well, with something that caused their opinion to rule. I say "seems" because I don't know the details. Just my perception.

I'm not going anywhere. Even if Jersey isn't reinstated. But, inquiring minds certainly desire more specific information about the event. Or, at least, I do.

And bust Jersey for what exactly? For doing the job I was given?

As a mod I was given instructions and also placed the following controls on myself:

1. I signed every mod action I took so that it would be easily located by anyone.

2. When I was unsure about what to do about a thing, I handed it off to Shades in the mod forum. If you were able to view
the mod forum, you'd see several instances where I did just that.

3. I never took moderator action on a thread where I was heavily involved in debating/discussing the topic.

4. I never moderated 4 specific posters for various reasons: marg, JAK, Kevin and Mister Scratch.

The rationale behind the complaints and resulting axing simply mystifies me for while they were in the process of "stripping" me of my mod powers, they completely gave me my posting powers back which are far stronger than that of a moderator. You see, as a moderator I refrained from commenting in certain cases where I normally would have done so as a poster.

Not so now.

I do hope you and others appreciate the backfire effect of that.

And once again, according to this poll, the "confidence" rating has gone up regarding me.

What does that tell us, eh? That people approved of my actions as moderator or that they simply want truth?

I refer you to my sig line.

(And I'm double spacing again. No one knows why!)

Defrock Jersey? Can they do that on a family board?

I'm mystified. It would nice to clear this up.

its shades board. He decides what is to take place, who can moderate, etc. But transparency in certain actions is required for my continued participation here.

Defrock Jersey? Fine, by all means. But when the response is "I don't want to embarrass Jersey" is given, even after Jersey is open to such explorations one takes pause.

Hypocrisy Shades? Hmm, maybe.

When have I ever threatened to leave before? Scotty, why have you become so uppity lately?

In an earlier post on this thread I stated:

And once again, according to this poll, the "confidence" rating has gone up regarding me.

That's an error on my part. The stats read:

81% Confidence
18% No Confidence

My mistake.

I also forgot to note that at least one person in possession of spine posted on the first page of this poll thread.

You don't say why you're not a "fan" of mine. Is it that you disagree with my moderator decisions? Because that's what this thread is about.

I don't know that you have ever threatened to leave.

That wasn't posted necessarily aimed at you. People threaten to leave all the time.

I didn't know I was uppity. I'll have to be more aware of myself and try and work on that. Thanks for pointing it out.
