Gee, talk about paranoid! I guess this is tacit admission that you need loyal moderators to tell you what's up?

No, it's an explicit admission, for the umpteenth time, that I'm not going to lift a finger to help you in your creepy data-gathering.

Well, I'll tell you this: I certainly don't have the firepower of my own personal "skinny-l" list.

As we have observed. I, however, won't stoop to such a thing. You can go on bragging about how "good" you feel in what you and your "skinny-l" pals have been doing. I get a dark feeling when I read the exchanges, though. A *VERY* dark feeling. Like the Adversary is running the listserve.

Yeah, you wouldn't want him to be as creepy as the LDS Church.

"Spleen" and "wounded ego"? Bill Hamblin?

That's hilarious.

On second thought, you may be right. The egos involved may be such that they are impervious to wounding, even when more sensible egos would be.

This is why I think LDS apologists tend to have inflated egos (one or two may escape the cycle):

1 - Their work is not submitted to rigorous critical review by peers, which would help them recognize that they need to be cautious in their assertions and use of footnotes

2 - They have a (albeit small) group of acolytes, who hang on every word they utter and constantly remind audiences of the credentials and intellectual power of the apologist (this is not actually due to any particular worthiness of the apologist, but rather due to the transfered loyalty and defensiveness)

3 - They have a built-in philosophy that automatically discredits, minimizes, and even demonizes critics of their work

This is a potent brew, and is likely why Dr. Peterson, for example, has such an ego that one of his favorite ploys is to quote harsh criticism that past critics have uttered regarding his self, character, or work, with the clear implication that the exact opposite is true. And, of course, college professors often have the same inclination towards the over-development of ego, due to also often possessing a small group of acolytes (their students).
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.
