is baloney. The church is not governed by the leaders. The church is governed by the members. The leaders exist to serve the members. Of course, that's not the way it works, but that's the way it's supposed to work.

Both wrong. The Church is governed by God and all in it are accountable to him.

Really? I'd like to send a letter to god. Where can I send the letter in order that it can get to the following address:

Elohim
Celestial walk way
Space-God city, Kolob
4815162342

____

Your "god" is a figment of a collective imagination.

We call it prayer. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it being in the Church as long as you were.

Yah, prayer. I tried that. He wasn't listening at the time, the packets got nulled a few routes out...yah.

Prayer is a technique, a bit like meditation. Except when someone meditates, its to concentrate on something worthwhile usually.

Mormon prayer is about escaping from the world, in essence tricking oneself that the monsters in the next room will always be there and torturous life will o on.

Prayer does not work and it has no utility other than focusing ones attenton if multiple individuals are in earshot of a vocal prayer.

When you pray to yourself in short quick bursts during times of despair or worry (high stress basically) you are not actually doing the same thing as you would with a vocal prayer with others. They are two completely different things.

So when you say prayer, do you mean personal prayer or public prayer?

Not in this life.

I'm talking about the kind where you talk together, consult with each other, laugh together, plan together, that kind of thing. Personal mostly. Public prayer generally bores me unless it's kept short and to the point. If you talk for more then a minute or two you've probably wandered off into things I don't know or care about or you're waxing eloquent (i.e. being dull).

Oh THAT...that's not prayer. that's communicating with a REAL PERSON. I do this all the time and I find that activity most beneficial. Heres how I do it. I call up someone. A doctor, lawyer, accountant, business partner. I then CONVERSE with them. I say something and then they say something. The difference between my interaction with others and yours is that it does not involve the ability to converse with an imaginary friend. Call it a self rationalization mental exercise if you must. Just don't call it prayer.

I got news for you. Its all a social exercise, this public prayer. Its a safety check and conformity tool. Theres correct prayers and incorrect prayers. Social rules are heightened during prayer. that's why you pray, to size up your social circle.

What if you're doing this with a supreme being you can't see? Still not a prayer?

I believe God will hold us accountable for what we do after vew finish this life. To attribut random tragedies or healing to, ask why, "God cursed, or God blessed me sems overly simple and not what is going on at all. I don't think God holds very man peple at all accountable until the nect life. To try understand make amends of why God is punishing you is far more fruitless and psychologically debilitating than the affliction itself. We live in a random world.

I am absolutely sure you believe this is a prayer, but from your description I would say its a common delusion within your subculture.

Do you really believe god talks to you? Can you ask him a question for me? Ask him to send me a soil sample from any planetoids circling Kolob. Oh, and if I can get the diameter of Kolob that would be great too.

You can't get this, of course...or do you believe that you can?
