This seems like a circular argument and it is based on political rather than religious beliefs.
No. It's a comparison between beliefs and actions. Actions reveal belief.
Okay, here is this for action:
Democrats pass legislation to keep people from starving - Republicans oppose it.
Democrats propose legislation to to provide heath care for all- Republicans oppose it.
Democrats pass legislation to provide health care for the aged and sick - Republicans oppose it.
Democrats pass legislation to reduce the working week from 60+ to 40 hours - Republicans oppose it.
Democrats pass legislation to let workers have collective bargaining - Republicans oppose it.
Democrats pass legislation to insure that our food is clean through inspection - Republicans oppose it.
Democrats pass legislation to help clean up air polution - Republicans oppose it.
Democrats pass legislation to provide for a reasonable minimum wage - Republicans oppose it.
Democrats pass legislation to accord civil rights to all regardless of race or religion - Republicans oppose it.
Government control of just about anything leads to increased waste, lower quality service, and, ultimately, lower standard of living for the people. Government control taken to the extreme produces North Korea, USSR, Cuba, etc. Baby steps in that direction produce lower quality of life like in Europe.
Lack of government control frees the people to make their own choices, which means that people get very creative at solving problems, making things cheaper (read: so more people can consume them), etc. That is why countries that are freerer have a much higher standard of living. Good grief, do you want your healthcare run like the DMV????
Conservatives oppose all of these things because they will reduce our standard of living either through waste or corruption. If the people have a choice (read: government gets out of the way), then we tend to make better decisions, waste less, and overall do what we can to improve our own lives. There is a role for government, but it should be much smaller than it is now.
By the way, you might want to check your history and see who the biggest opponents of the civil rights legislation of the 50s-70s were (answer: southern democrats).
