Said another way, God refuses to be used. He has no interest in turning Earth into heaven unless the people on said Earth are actually going there.
God is willing to make us perfect immortal Gods. He'll fix the rest of the problems on the way but that's what you're in for if you want his direct help.
Let me get this straight.
One of the purposes of the HG is to "enlighten" the mind of man, in regards to ALL truths, not just religious truths. So if God were to inspire his faithful, through the HG, with the "enlightenment" on how to resolve some of mankind's horrific problems, that would be the equivalent of "God being used"??????
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

No, but you, a non-believer, are saying he should act. I don't know you but from what I've read you don't believe and if we were to cure cancer tomorrow you still wouldn't. In terms of God's plan, how does this assist you in becoming a deity? It doesn't. Why should God act?
"Surely he knows that DCP, The Nehor, Lamanite, and other key apologists..." -Scratch clarifying my status in apologetics "I admit it; I'm a petty, petty man." -Some Schmo

Because this life matters. The suffering in this life matters. Once believers embrace that because some next life awaits in which all wrongs will be righted and hence, dealing with the problems of this life is not as important as preparing for the next, they've stepped on a slippery slope.
And how in the world does not requesting that listeners turn to a page in their scriptures assist anyone in becoming a deity, either?

The suffering does matter. Hence that whole Gethsemane thing to help out. How many people are using that?
I disagree with your assessment. In my anecdotal experience and with my casual study of history I think that those who shoot for heaven do more good here then those who focus entirely on making things better here alone.
A person sitting in the congregation has reached a new level of spiritual insight. As the visions of eternity are set to begin from the pulpit they hear, "Please turn to Deuteronomy 23:12-13 and read with me." The moment is lost and the person loses the faith they needed to overcome a great trial that lay in wait. Looking up scriptures costs salvation I TELL YOU!!!!!

Personally, I agree with the FP. (*waiting for reports of earthquakes in diverse places*)
"Follow along with me" is always followed by rustling, shuffling, clicking of locks on briefcases, shifting and by then, the whole congregation has lost the whole idea the speaker was trying to get across. "Follow along with me" belongs in a participatory teaching situation, like Sunday School or Primary, not in Sacrament meeting. We're being talked to in SM, not talked with. And what about the guilt all of us feel who didn't bring our scriptures to church? Now we have one less thing to feel guilty about (always a good thing).
So to those who think I do nothing but criticize the Brethren: *pppphhhhhltttttttt*
The Nehor wrote:The suffering does matter. Hence that whole Gethsemane thing to help out. How many people are using that?
Where do I inject this Gethsemane stuff to cure a cancer sufferer? Left or right butt cheek?
Or can I get it in suppository form to administer to a patient who has become so emaciated that they haven't got a butt cheek to stick a needle in?
That way I can tell them that they can stick it right up their a**, which does indeed seem an appropriate way to administer religious uplift to someone who has a horrible and painful disease that (in their unenlightened way) they actually want made better before they succumb to an agonising death.
Funny about the Gethsemane man, though. I seem to remember that there are stories about him going round making sick people better straight away, just because they wanted to be made better. Maybe he hadn't perfected the suppository plan at the time.
And to think that in my days as a believer I tried out pretty well every single one of those twelve positions ... fortunately always from a mainly theoretical point of view so far.

I am marking this down in my book as a day to never be forgotten. ;-)
God thinks page flipping in sacrament meeting isn't a good idea, (I thought this was a long time policy and recall hearing this message many years ago), and he can inspire the prophet and apostles to implement said policy but God isn't going to help LDS leaders with the problems of the world because they lack faith? Or helping the suffering of our world won't help them become Gods and Goddesses? Or he will think he is being used if he helps people just for the sake of helping?
Wow. :-(
I'm thinking of the amazing French scientist Andre Briend, creator of Plumpy'nut.... he came up with Plumpy'nut, an incredible food source saving the lives of millions of children all over the world.
Maybe it is just me but Andre's work seems just a tad more important than page shuffling in US LDS chapels on a Sunday afternoon.
Andre isn't a member of the LDS church, doesn't have the priesthood, as far as I know doesn't believe in the LDS version of God and the HG, but WOW... talk about making a difference in the world.
