Are you serious? Who cares? I know a lot of people who care and who would care if they knew about it, which is why the Church continues to avoid it by misleading statements.
Does it not bother you at all that the Church makes blatantly false statements to the media regarding when it stopped polygamy in the very same writings in which it is admonishing (some would say "threatening") the media to be accurate? That's is just a big "so what" to you?
Wow.
Let me re-phrase it. I care. Members of the Church should care. But most of the public who hear the reports will not care because it is a minor or non issue to them. They don't get the intricacies of it. As Harmony noted people and the news care about polygmay in the here and now, not 100 years ago.
* More than a third of those surveyed (36 percent) erroneously thought that the Texas compound was part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or "Mormon Church" based in Salt Lake City * 6 percent said the two groups were partly related. * 29 percent correctly said the two groups were not connected at all * 29 percent were not sure.
In addition, when asked specifically which religious organization members of the polygamous group belonged to:
* 30 percent said "Mormon," "LDS" or "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" * 14 percent said "FLDS" * 6 percent said "Mormon fundamentalists" * Nearly half (44 percent) were unsure
or in simpler terms, Mormon = POLYGAMY and POLYGAMY = Mormon.
Most non momons view the LDS the same was as most LDS view the amish. Know little, think they are weird, believe most of what they see in the media, an just like LDS and the Amish, most non momons don't care about Mormons.
This is simply LDS Inc bawling over lost baptisms.

I think this is worth pursuing further.
I truly wonder how this whole FLDS/Texas fiasco has impacted missionary work in the U.S.A., especially in Texas itself.
Does anyone have any missionary relatives who have commented on this?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Good points Doc.
I must confess that I have helped perpetuate the Mormon and polygamy linkage. When people at work ask if they are part of the same church, I say that they are, and the only difference is one is orthodox Mormon and the other is not.
The Wickman letter doesn't effectively represent official church position. I wonder if any in the media will be fooled into thinking that Elder Wickman's letter can be considered authoritative. Wickman is not the President of the church. He is not in the First Presidency. He is not in the Quorum of the Twelve either. Only a lazy reporter would consider him to be the final authoritative word on any church matter.
For starts .... lets look at the D&C. The LDS church has 140 segments in theirs. How many of these are in the FLDS version? How many additional segments do the FLDS have in theirs? Lets talk numbers.

I live in Texas, we've had seven baptisms this year already, above average. Our stake is above average too.

I think people are confused here. The LDS Church does not have or claim the right to tell reporters what to say. Do you really think reporters read that press release and amend everything they write based on it? Get out your tinfoil hats then.
This press release might be sent out (I doubt it) but it will mostly be seen by reporters who click to the Church's website to see if we have any comment on something.
People in this thread seem to see a polite request is actually a vicious demand that must be met lest news outlets and reporters suffer the consequences or be sued (both unlikely).
