FLDS Fight Back and Say "WE ARE Mormons!"

Post by _mms »

Check this out:

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=3723241

The FLDS have issued a statement objecting to the Church's effort to stop them from calling themselves "Mormons."

It is noteworthy that KSL points out post-Manifesto polygamy, stating:

In 1890, a LDS Church manifesto denounced polygamy and opened the door for Utah's statehood. But church leaders continued to privately sanction plural marriage for decades, scattering some Mormons to Mexico and other locations to continue the practice. The author of two volumes on polygamy, Hardy said it wasn't until the 1920s that church leadership began to actively excommunicate known polygamists.

Also, the article quotes a "polygamy expert" as follows:

"These fundamentalists had good reason to look upon themselves as the most faithful,"

I don't know who is running the PR effort here for the Church, but trying to say who can and who can't call themselves "Mormons" and repeatedly claiming the Church stopped polygamy in 1890 were clear (and rather obvious) missteps.

Sweeeeeet.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I had a feeling that this one might come back to bite them in the ass. Can't say I'm not enjoying this so far.

Someone needs to post this on MAD.

It seems so incredibly obvious: FLDS adhere to primitive Mormonism.

The proclamation by fiat that FLDS are not Mormons seems to be the only open avenue to the CJCoLDS.

Sort of like repeating a mantra often enough that, for you, it becomes true.

Glad to know a reporter actually did some investigating to discover the truth.

The church should realize by now that deceiving the public (and members) is not quite as easy as it used to be. Too much information is accessible.

Of course believers will think it is all anti-mormon lies, nevertheless, the truth is out there.

That's the Mormon way! I never really knew the purpose of Testimony Meetings until after I left Mormonism.

"I know this church is the only true church on the earth today.

I know Joseph Smith was a Prophet.

I know the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God.

And I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the branch controlled by the Corporation of the President based in Salt Lake City, is the one and only group entitled to call themselves 'Mormon'.

IsaythesethingsinthenameofJesusChristAmen."

What seems ironic is that mainstream LDS want to claim the title "Christian" while at the same time denying FLDS the title "Mormon". By definition, the FLDS are much more Mormon than LDS are Christian.

This is just classic.

The equivalence between the LDS are Christian argument and the FLDS are Mormon argument is just perfect.

This is signature worthy!

From his studies, Walsh concludes that the main differences between LDS members and their fundamentalist cousins really boils down to differences in daily living, not theology.
