I'm with Kish. This thread feels petty and off topic. A Professors publishing record on his academic specialism feels beyond the purview of this discussion board.

Good, Lord. You're kvetching about pettiness on this board? 90% of the crap posted here and elsewhere with regard to Mormonism, Mormons, ex-Mormons, and the like is petty. Bitching and moaning about public figures is, in of itself, petty. Openly wondering if the primary Mopologist will live up to his word, on a topic that he himself brings up repeatedly, is petty. So what? People speculated on the former board if what's-his-nuts is in a polyamorous relationship with what's-her-nuts and her bestie who bought a house next door to them
It's interesting and it's in the bubble topic of Mormonism. The pearl clutching is weird, not gonna lie.

I thought it had been determined that BYU professors could substitute apologetics for academic publications with no penalties or reprisals since those apologetics were deemed essential in defense of the Gospel. Beyond the Veil, they would receive high praise for their part in the Saints-Heathens War.

Whether it's right or wrong, I predict that it will continue to happen based on basic Newtonian laws of interpersonal dynamics. For every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. The Rev wrote:Honestly, I really don't understand the decade and a half of ...
The individual at issue uses "his life" as a means to condescend to others. Sometimes it's indirectly, such as when a random critic asks a question he doesn't wish to answer, and so he excuses himself by noting all the important things he has to do, implying that the critic is less important than he is, and so the question is unworthy of a response, as the asker is unworthy to ask. Sometimes it's direct, such as criticizing Gemli's credentials. FARMS was notorious for this, taking aim at the occupations and schooling of Brent M. Dan V. Ed A. And it comes up all the time in travel logs. His perfect pitch for grammar was brutalized at Taco Bell one day when a young black girl asked him to elaborate when he asked for "a couple" of tacos. How dare this worker from the underclass talk to an important Islamic professor like that? How could "a couple" mean anything other than two? He failed to consider that a fast-food worker might have equally perfect grammatical pitch, yet not knowing the educational attainments of every random customer hitting the drive-through, it's possible and likely that some customers would use the terminology imprecisely and so the worker must clarify every case.
A person who talks about his personal life constantly, and in many cases is doing so in order to either aggrandize himself, put somebody else down, or both, will naturally reap retaliation. Perhaps the retaliators are wrong, but I kid you not, if every known retaliator were to disappear from the earth tomorrow, a completely new set would replace them within months if not weeks, so long as the blog output remains unchanged.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

And sometimes it's excruciatingly direct, as Peterson's history of plagiarism shows.Gadianton wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 4:42 amThe individual at issue uses "his life" as a means to condescend to others. The irony here is that there are many more recent examples of plagiarism I could add, but it is simply becoming too time-consuming to keep up with Peterson's honor code violations. I will do my best to catch up when there is a break, but in reality, Peterson plagiarizes faster than I can document it.

Boy, that whole thread sure was petty and unbecoming. Why would anyone waste their time belittling the honorable work of a teaching professor at a teaching school? I just hope no one takes the time to catalogue Louis Midgley's assholishness since that'd be petty and unbecoming because he taught at a teaching institution and is also old which is a thing.

ETA a relevant quote from Dr. W:
- DocAs to the relationship between the MormonDiscussions.com and DCP; DCP is to the MormonDiscussions.com what Donald Trump is to the network late night talk shows (especially Myers, Colbert and Kimmel).
Both Peterson and Trump are over the top narcissists who need nothing more than they need attention, good, bad or indifferent. Both appear to have a following of hard core true believers representing the far right or more fundamentalist members of their respective target audiences.
And neither should be allowed to get away with the unscrupulous promulgation their utter nonsense without some push back from the rational mainstream.
