Does the church own this?

ZIONS BANCORP

If so, is there similar trouble with God's bank as others who speculated into unsound mortgages?

No. Share holders own it. It is a publicly traded company.

And God has been broke for centuries...

I think the Church has the lion's share of the stock.

Which leads to the question of which funds does the Church control or hold shares with? (With the proviso that this question can be asked by a member).

Difficult too say given the Churches desire to keep finances private. They may fly under the wire of reporting obligations the SEC mandates for public companies by investing in smaller percentages than what is required to be disclosed.

Ten years ago Time Mag estimated the Church wealth at 30 billion / 6-7 billion in income. I suspect that most of its wealth is tied up in its own businesses.

I would agree. The Church tends to keep all of its operations private so as to avoid disclosure.
