Kan B'alam was one of the rulers of Palenque, and was referred to as 'jaguar serpent', as this was his symbol in hieroglyphics. This is probably a representation of him, and the portion in the background that some people are saying looks like a horse is probably part of the jaguar serpent. Sometimes the serpent is feathered. Keep in mind that these are representation of mystical hybrid animals, often visionary. They're not going to look like real animals.

But you know what is really tragic about this MAD thread is how resistant they are to factual information that contradict these pet "evidences". The Florida horse has now resurrected. Good grief. If they shoot MAD horses, just how many bullets does it take to put those frackers down?
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I am sometimes amused too at some of the pet "evidences" that frequently arise, a bit of jewelry here, a few bones here, paintings that look like anything but what is suggested. I'm still open to the idea that the horse may have existed in Book of Mormon times, but I haven't seen any hard evidence. Scientists have been mistaken before, or premature, as in one case I mentioned long ago, the Coelacanth. Though not quite in the same category as "dirt archeology", I don't think it wise to completely shut off any possibilities. But even if horse remains were discovered in the Book of Mormon time frame, that would do nothing to solve the irreconcilable anachronisms in Book of Mormon "history", which in my opinion is a far greater problem.

You may be trying to joke (or something), but this is actually the very type of evidence that you embrace.

A relevant story from Chinese history:

http://www.yutopian.com/literature/idiom/Zhilu.html

Zhi Lu Wei Ma
(Calling a Deer a horse)

Qin Er Shi, the son of Shi Huang Di of Qin Dynasty was not a bright king. Zhao Gao, the prime minister wanted to replace Er Shi as king. To test the loyalty of the officials, Zhao presented a deer (Lu) to the king, calling it a horse (Ma). Er Shi laughed and rebuked Zhao, saying that it was a deer. Zhao turned towards the officials, asking for their opinion. Most of them looked away from Zhao and did not answer. Some tried to curry favor with Zhao and said it was a horse. There was a small number of officials who told the truth. Zhao remembered all those who favored the king and have them executed.

They do a test a bit like that to see if you are a loyal LDS. Those who fail ("It's a tapir"/"It's part of a feathered serpent") get ex'd.

Man sits on horse, facing assward.

There is a deeper meaning here for mopologetics, I'm sure of it.

Dude does have a way of cutting straight to the heart of the matter. LOL!

For those wondering about the odd "jaguar/serpent", here's information from Linda Schele that may help clarify (from Code of Kings, page 417)

Vision Serpents were rearing snakes that embodied the conduit between human beings and the supernatural world. Some had feathers lining their body and others had their bodies partially flayed. Sak nik, "white flower", both in the form of foliated ahaw signs and a personified form, decorate the tails of many serpents.

You might take a look at this while you're at it:

Ray,

I can't check the links myself because MAD has barred my IP address from viewing their site, so even if they work, I still get an error message. Maybe other folks will check and give me feedback, too.
