Yeah, I think they're wrong to say there's never any real dialog here. But, to me, the larger point is that when believers and exbelievers try to dialog, there seems to be an almost inevitable increase in noise to signal ratio, due to the emotional baggage between the two groups. The question is how much tolerance people have for noise before they decide it's not worth it. Like I posted there, how much of crocket, droopy, wheat, schryver, can one take? I appreciate that MD is deliberately designed to allow all these voices, but there is a price for that, and some folks aren't willing to pay that price. I frequently ask myself if the price is worth it, but I'm a creature of habit, so keep posting anyway.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Yeah, but he meant the boards at MA&D. You know, the "LDS Dialogue and Discussion" board, the "Pundits Forum," etc.--all hosted at MA&D.
(And harmony, thanks for your words of support! I very much appreciate you being "in my corner.")

Almost makes you wonder if free speech is worth it. Well, at least nobody makes you listen to it. Funny how most of 'em keep coming back though. Maybe if we're lucky, they come back immune. If we're really lucky someone will have an antidote.
That other board is worse where even the antidote is not allowed.
The antidote for what? Sanity? Logic? Intelligence?
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

You're wrong; Wheat did no such thing.

"Mormon Apologetics and Discussion" = "MA&D," not this board.
Why not read the whole post? Here it is:
I've decided to stop posting on "Mormon apologetics and discussion" boards. As many of you know, the atmosphere can be poisonous on those places, and it is only getting worse. The other day an LDS poster on mormondiscussions advocated "Blood Atonement" for "unrepentant" gays, lamenting only that he'll have to wait until the Second Coming to see it implemented. Another poster called me "the Mark Hoffman [sic] of the exmormon world."
I've always tried to be a voice of reason and civility on those boards, but it's apparent to me that these are not prized commodities when discussing Mormonism. It's an "us vs. them" world, and vituperation and demonization are de rigeur. Kindness is so passé.
Maybe it's just that I don't care anymore about being "right" about the church. To me, Mormonism is an open-and-shut case; it has no legs to stand on, and its apologetics are becoming increasingly absurd. Most people on those boards are never going to take a reasoned and dispassionate look at their religion.
Of course, I knew that going in. I always thought that maybe the lurkers would benefit from honesty and reason. But who cares? I'm done with it. No more day-trips into insanity. It's not worth it.
Portion that I bolded. He clearly includes this board in the first para and is discussing a falling out that originated on this board. The entire thread is a discussion about events on this board , not MAD.

Here's a more recent post from Runtu further in the thread:
He's definitely thinking about this board as a recent example of why he's choosing to withdraw from boards.

On MDB they've already started a thread on my departure, which has quickly devolved into a discussion of what a rotten place FLAK is.
Someone called me a determined missionary for the anti-gospel, whatever that means.
It's a good reminder of why I need to stay away from places like that.

Are you placing yourself in the second category, Ray A? Come on, now, I can think of a number of adjectives to apply to you (mostly complimentary), but "pathetic" is not one of them.
“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”

Thanks, Trev. To a point I agree with Runtu, and harmony. I'm really in the middle. I don't blame Runtu at all. But who needs a board with such a popular and interesting blog as he has? He's much less likely to be attacked there, and can freely express his thoughts in home territority. He's a talented writer, but it doesn't shine through on boards as it does on his blog. In a few months his blog will be worth enough for a handsome retirement. :)

I don't blame Runtu. I look to him as an example. I need to leave this place to those who are truly capable of taking lighthearted enjoyment out of this. I fear I may not be one of them.

[I would respond over at FLAK but they possess the hardest registration system in history. I can't nail that garbled "Confirmation code" to save my life]
I thought this guy was one of the more reasonable voices of "Reason", little I knew he was a "Pussy" (don't mean female epiteth), look what he says:

So what? You want to be your ass kissed? showered with accolades? Just because your posts are reasonable and entertaining? If they call you "Mark Hoffmann of exmoism", accept it as a compliment.
Don't blame the Wheat, the real "Knucklehead" is Runtu here, when he found the kitchen too hot, he run away.
