For you? Yeah, I would.

There are lots of them.
Great, go ahead and list them.

I don't think it means much for Internet Mormons to say that another religion is partially true. Because, they themselves believe Mormonism is only partially true. Ok, maybe they believe Mormonism is 100% true, but prophets and everything involved with Mormonism except God are fallible, so they can't really say what doctrine is, but more importantly, there are plenty of beliefs among Mormons (doctrinal, to these Mormons) including high-ranking church leaders that internet Mormons reject and just consider opinion or sometimes they call it myth. But with that kind of flexibility, how do you really say another religion is "partially true?" Because, anyone else can see by the same standards that these same religions would be 100% true too, and all the parts that aren't true are just opinion and myth and should be overlooked.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Daniel Peterson wrote:The preferred spelling among modern English-speaking Islamicists is Qur’an -- ideally with a macron over the a -- reflecting the term's origin in the verb qara’a ("to read," "to recite"). The preferred spelling of the Prophet's name is Muhammad, ideally with a dot under the h. . . Shari‘a law was developed in its essence over the two or three centuries following the death of Muhammad. It relies to some extent on the Qur’an, but to a far greater degree on the so-called hadith -- traditions about the sayings and actions of Muhammad and the earliest Muslim community.

Thanks for getting back to me on all that. It's good to hear it from a definitive source.

You're asking a paid apologist to air his dirty laundry on a board critical of his employer? Ha!! You funny.

What a weird remark.

Why on earth would you imagine that I regard areas where Islam and Mormonism agree as "dirty laundry"?

Daniel,

What was your motivation to pursue Islamic studies? I listened to a lecture of yours last evening and was duly impressed. I'm interested in knowing what set you on your path.

antithought,

How is asking Daniel to list religious parallels in any way constitute airing "dirty laundry" and who cares where he lists them? Something tells me that because a majority of posters on this board are critical of his "employer" has no bearing whatsoever on his professional life or any parallels he might share.

No gold ring for you today, antithought. Would you like to ride again?

Dear *insert insult*,

I'm not sure the Mormon church would like their paid apologist to be paralleling Mormonism with Islam on an essentially anti-Mormon board, especially since LDS Inc. is trying to mainstream itself with Christianity. Not to mention Islam has a certain crappy record when it comes to, oh, I don't know, murdering people, polygamy, slavery, and damned children. But heck, I would LOVE for Mr. Peterson to list of parallels between Mormonism and the prophet Muhammed's religion. It would be wonderful.

Sincerely,

antithought,

I don't know how else to say this and I'm not going to spend time thinking of a better way. You're an idiot straight up. Christianity also has a crappy record when it comes to much of what you listed. Daniel is an academic. I should think that LDS Inc. expects him to answer an academic question based on his expertise and that LDS Inc doesn't give a hoot what he posts on this board or that he posts on this board.

What is it with you people? When Daniel isn't posting you all complain that he's chicken or something. When he does post, you get giddy as if some impending drama is about to unfold.

Get a grip.
