Bastian says he decided to get involved after the LDS First presidency sent a letter to its California congregations last month.
Bastion said, "I'm just not going to sit quietly by and let them do it. I just don't believe it's right. I don't believe it's fair. I don't believe it's what Jesus would do."
I believe Bastian is gay, correct? If so, it is an easy out for Mormons to ignore and discount his actions, at least the ones who are following the counsel of their leaders.
And while he isn't sure whether he is being courageous or "idiotic" giving away a million dollars, Bastian does know what he wants to say to the LDS Church.
Bastian said, "They don't have to change their church views but they need to stay out of the political views. And they need to let families deal with this and love each other."
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
For the life of me, I don't know why the Church is pursuing this. Bastian would probably not have donated one cent, had it not been because of opposition from the Church.
There are enlightened Mormons! Thanks to Bro Bruce! Assume he is a tithe payer... That the church refused comment to ABC News seems contrary to them wanting the public eye... LDSism is really on the skids with their antiquated theology--Adam's Rib et al--and their dark-age understanding of human evolution, cosmology and consciousness.
Thanks for the news item.
Have you noticed what a beautiful day it is? Some can't... "God": nick-name for the Universe...
It sounds like a lot of members are unhappy with what the LDS church is doing.
First, just the over the top involvement with the political issue which is really out of line in my opinion and in the opinion of many members.
Secondly, because many LDS people disagree with what the church is asking them to do.
You have obedient members who will obey regardless condemning those who won't support the cause, and those who are following their conscience faulting those who blindly obey.
It is all intriguing to observe.
GOOD for Bruce for helping out. :-)
It isn't easy to combat such a powerful and wealthy organization as the LDS church, especially when members equate their righteousness to obedience.
Roger... you are right on!

One can only hope.
