Re: Utah Billionaire donates $1 Million AGAINST Prop eight
Unless he realized he wasn't gay after all, stopped seeing men, "repented" of all his evil doings, and got rebaptised, Bruce Bastian hasn't been LDS for a long time, as in at least 13 or 15 years or more. I haven't heard anything about him in years, so the question is: did this happen? I rather doubt it.
So Bastian is in the position of an exmo church critic. Not much the local bishop will be able to do about that.
Also, Bastian's haul from WordPerfect ran into the hundreds of millions. His former wife took a lot of it, and he spent a lot of it building an idiotic megahouse right next to the WordPerfect campus parking lot, but assuming he still had 9 figures to his name when all was said and done, it's possible he could be worth over a billion by now, with good investments.
I'm glad to see he donated to the No on 8 group. I hope Prop. 8 fails. Maybe the Mormons in California will learn something when in two or three or five years from now, the heterosexual family has not collapsed, the heterosexuals haven't all embraced homosexuality as their own, and the sky has not fallen.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Ah yes. Sky Daddy wants to roast faggots forever and ever, because he loves them.
You've really got this "cartoon human being" thing down, haven't you? Keep it up.

If the story is true, he should be excommunicated. Belonging to the Church means accepting a few things including the teachings of the scriptures and Apostles and Prophets. Repudiating that means you should leave the Church. We don't have or want a 'loyal opposition'.

Let's see, God is going to send all gay men to a super hot place where they're forced to strip down to almost nothing and roll around together on the ground. I'm sure that will teach them a lesson Gaz.

Too bad. There is probably thereby missed learning opportunities on both sides of the question. OTOH, such an attitude is common in most, if not all, Totalitarian, Fascist and Religious Extremist regimes.
So LDSism reveals itself as not really Christian in the true sense of the word after all... Oh well, there has to be places for folks of different strokes to find their comforts.

lol -- hilarious!
As for you, Gaz: Oh, not AGAIN. How can you stand to be filled with such hate for fellow human beings who aren't hurting anyone?
I have been astonished that Men could die Martyrs for religion - I have shudder'd at it - I shudder no more - I could be martyr'd for my Religion - Love is my religion - I could die for that -

Yes, we miss the wonderful opportunity of having our house divided against itself and all the wondrous learning opportunities that leads to.
The true sense of the word Christian is follower of Christ. He taught that a house divided against itself can not stand. He encouraged unity. Nowhere in his teachings will you find praise for accepting other's views simply because they exist or a call for tolerance of sin.
This does not mean that we murder them or attack them. It means we leave them to the judgement of God, boot those who call evil good out of the flock (wolves among us), and teach the truth even if it offends which it often does. Christ was executed for it after all.
