Curse of Cain
Does anyone know if the LDS church still teaches that God marks less righteous types with dark skin? I'm kind of wondering if the Curse of Cain has gone the way of "that's not doctrine" doctrine...
I know the CofC was a huge issue for me during my formative years, probably because I admired so many sports figures who were black. It was disappointing, to say the least, to find out that black people were designated by so many Mormon prophets and apostles as the least among all the races.
One would think it has distanced itself from the racial issue, but after the revealing bit of bigotry today one must assume the LDS church is hung up on the color of one's skin?

No, one does not have to assume that. Anti-Mormon bigots might.

Re: Curse of Cain
Why would you encourage someone to stay within their race when it comes to marriage? I'm not sure why that would add any other kind of stressor that would make any harder than it already is. If anything, sometimes duress from outsiders can bond people, and in this case a marriage stands to benefit from having to come together to weather the kind of bigotry we're discussing.

Two statements:
1. I'm not sure why that would add any other kind of stressor that would make any harder than it already is.
2. If anything, sometimes duress from outsiders can bond people, and in this case a marriage stands to benefit from having to come together to weather the kind of bigotry we're discussing.
Observation: This may come as a shock to you but duress and persecution are usually not seen as a good thing for marital stability.
Conclusion: You need more shock therapy.

Hey, Nehor, I thought you said that struggles in marriage make strong marriages and it's great for kids? Didn't you say that in the sexual revolution thread??

Nehor. .
Are you not a 40 something LDS bachelor ? So how does that make you an expert on marriage?

God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

Sometimes, but I have little pity for those who seek it out. In my experience, those who seek out problems generally don't grow from them. Interracial couples are not a big deal now (for most people). When President Kimball gave that talk it was much more likely it would estrange people from their families, limit social life, possibly harm employment opportunities, and make your children's lives harder. Also note that President Kimball did not say don't. He said that you should be careful. And you should.

Uhhh, no. 20 something. I'm not an expert on marriage. I assumed based on board content that being an expert on a topic is not a prerequisite for speaking on it.

Thank you.
Now I can continue.
Marriage is about sex, pure and simple. That and making sure people don't become gay. Thank you for listening and goodnight.
