I'M MANUALLY TYPING IN THE QUOTE CODES NOW. IT'S THE SAME THING AS IF YOU USE THE QUOTE CODE AT THE TOP OF THE MESSAGE FIELD. I'M DOING IT MANUALLY BECAUSE I'M RESPONDING TO YOUR ENTIRE POST.

I don't know how that happened either.

And why does it stop you from quoting what you want?

Some folks, including Shades, are bothered by the quote vortexes. I myself like them because it helps to track the dialogue.

And how do you quote more than one person in the same post?

I suppose you'd have to manually code the quotes into the post and attribute them to each poster.

Do you know how to do that?

You'd have to find the post that you want to quote from and copy it. Manually put in the quote codes and paste it in there. Then do the same thing for other poster's quotes. You could also use another feature on your computer to create the entire post for example, open a Word document and create your post there...then copy the whole thing and paste it into a new post message field.

The only thing I've been able to figure out is to go to one post and click on "quote" and then that's the only quote I can display. How do I get a second quote from another source on the same thread? And where are the double quotes coming from?

I think I just explained that above.

How does DCP dissect a long post, quote multiple people and respond to each line?

I can do that "manually" but it is sooooooooooooooooooooo time consuming.

Yeah, NG is not a computer brainiac.

If it looks like these bogus samples:

He's typing it in manually in the same post. And yes, it's time consuming!

THE SYSTEM STOPPED ME ON THIS ATTEMPT TO QUOTE FROM THE PREVIOUS POST WHERE THE VORTEX STARTED TO FORM.

I can't believe that Jersey Girl - you mean he didn't call them

Just so you all know, when you're posting a reply inside a thread, if you scroll down below the submit button, you'll see the most recent posts in the thread down there. You can click the "quote" button on any of those posts, and it'll add that persons post quoted at wherever your cursor is.

If you quote someone who quoted someone, who then also quoted someone, then you've gone 3 quotes deep. You'll have to manually remove one of the quote levels.

Thank Jersey Girl and Keene for trying to enlighten me. That is helpful. I get it now about second tier quoting etc.

The error I was getting showed this:

[quote Jersey Girl][quote Jersey Girl] and the same at the other end to finish the quote.

That's when the error message would say you cannot double quote - or something like that. I have no idea how I would get "double quotes" like that - I didn't do it on purpose. I had to go in and manually extract the second set. I don't think I was trying to do a second tier of quotes - just one person at a time but oh well, I'll see what happens next time I try it.

Thanks for responding to my request for help!

You've probably seen Keene's helpful advice, to whit:

That's good advice. Thanks, Keene!

And where are the double quotes coming from?

They're coming from when you click the "Quote" button on a post that already has a quote or two within it.

How does DCP dissect a long post, quote multiple people and respond to each line?

He probably does what I do: Copies-and-pastes everything to which he wishes to reply into Notepad and then composes his entire post there. Then, when he's done, copies-and-pastes that back into the thread.

I can do that "manually" but it is sooooooooooooooooooooo time consuming.

It is?

Yeah, when I'm picking through a post, manually extracting or inserting quote fields.

I am going to try your other suggestion of writing it all in Word or similar and see how that goes.

On the bright side, it keeps me from quoting too much as so far it's been such a pain. [insert smiley here just for Shades!]
