I guess the authors of the "Preach My Gospel" manual didn't get the word either:

Keep the Sabbath Day Holy

Our Sabbath-day behavior is a reflection of our commitment to honor and worship God. By keeping the Sabbath day holy, we show God our willingness to keep our covenants. Each Sabbath day we go to the Lord’s house to worship Him. While there we partake of the sacrament to remember Jesus Christ and His Atonement. We renew our covenants and show that we are willing to repent of our sins and mistakes.

On this day, we enjoy a rest from our labors. As we attend Church services and worship together, we strengthen each other. We are renewed by our association with friends and family. Our faith is strengthened as we study the scriptures and learn more
about the restored gospel.

When a community or nation grows careless in its Sabbath activities, its religious life decays and all aspects of life are negatively affected. The blessings associated with keeping the Sabbath day holy are lost.

We should refrain from shopping on the Sabbath and participating in other commercial and sporting activities that now commonly desecrate the Sabbath.

Unless, of course, you fall into the category outlined in the 1978 Ensign article, and are very good at "sporting activities", in which case you're allowed to do what you want.

Only after certain caveats are met. I'm fairly certain also that you are cherry picking the articles that don't list such caveats. I'll leave the proof to the student.....

Yes yes. The Lord was very explicit in the canon disciples could work on Sundays if they were good at sports, or could bring positive attention to His church. Jesus was a marketing major at Pre-Existence U.

Are you stupid?

You must be, if you think those guys are breaking Sabbath rules.
they make a living dude! Get over sabbath BS.
Suppose that I was an active LDS, shouldn't I let my physician wife work? Or I need to milk cows, I'm a nurse, whatever the hell....

Next time you decide post something make sure it contains some intelligence.

Don't you ever mess with NFL, in the first place. As much as I used to hate Steve Young, Danny Ainge (because I was Cowboy, Laker fan). I admire their courage and their money.

Let the guys play and wish none of them gets hurt!
It is their livelyhood!

1. He watches football every Sabbath.

Nope. Not are a real football fan. I have LDS friends who do at times though. Me I prefer a nice nap, or walk or bike ride on a Sunday afternoon.

2. He works on the Sabbath

Rarely though there are a few times I have when necessary.

3. His wife works on the Sabbath

Nope

4. He is just pissed about defending such a lame religion

I just point out stupidity on your part when I see it which is often.

Actually though I will concede this point after thinking it through. The Church does preach against such activities on the sabbath yet holds out those who are stars as show pieces. Yet I recall one BYU Football player who declined millions to play football because he did not want to break the sabbath. He was held out as an example too.

So I take all my posts above back.

This thread prompted me to do some searching of NRL (National Rugby League) players who are Mormons, and I found three who are on annual c. $1 million salaries (ie, nearly as much as FARMS apologists).

I've confirmed that one won't play on Sunday, and the other two are considering leaving rugby league to serve missions. I don't expect they will require help from the missionary funds.

I believe I remember that one, he went on to be a school teacher?

See this is what is troubling for Mormonism. It is all over the map.

Don't work on the sabbath, do work on the sabbath.

The Seventh Day Adventists are very strict about observing their Sabbath on Saturday, at least the ones I worked with. They were very explicit in letting us know when he had work scheduled for the weekend that they wound NOT work between Friday 5pm to Saturday 5pm.

Mormons on the other hand...
