No that is not true. It is legal for churches to campaign for ISSUES. Like Prop 8. It is only illegal for them to campaign for candidates.

We need to know how many rather rich Barbara Youngs live in Palo Alto CA - rich enough to drop $25k to support a political cause.
That should cut it down some. In fact I should be surprised if there was more than one.

I would be surprised if there was more than one too, but there are a lot of rich folk in Palo Alto so by exculding those not able to spend 25k on a political cause you are not excluding as many people as you might think.

TSCC always presents these so-called choices between good(their ideas/doctrine) and evil(all others).

Yeah, that is silly. The church has made it very clear to its members how they should vote on this. It has made the members' minds up for them. There is no other side, short of opposing the brethren.
