With her wonderful raspy voice Stevie Nicks set out on a solo career that garnered her numerous radio worthy hits. Most of these videos are gloriously overproduced 80's gems with big hair and coreographed dancing. That aside I love the Stevie Nicks, my favorite being a tie between "Talk to me" and "If Anyone Falls".

Gaz, rock the “F” on... Image

See, I like to start things off HEAVY. Little something to get the blood pumping, wake you up, rattle the neighbor's house...

Strapping Young Lad - Love? (Nuclear Weapons Compilation vid) Devy is Heavy, that is all.

Then I drop it back a notch and rub some funk on it...

Infectious Grooves - These Freaks Are Here To Party Funk Metal is the bastard child of Suicidal Tendencies and Parliment Funkadelic and probably involved a lot of really good drugs...

Then I show all the kids what real metal is like by kicking it old school...

Anthrax - Time BRING BACK 80'S THRASH!

Then it's time put boots to heads heavy style...

Slayer - Raining Blood The granddaddies of Death Metal.

Then I go all EuroThrash on everyone in earshot...

In Flames - Cloud Connected These guys just plan rock.

Then I make it go all the damned way to 11...

MESHUGGAH - Bleed If you don't get it, then you're a tone deaf rhythmless asshat that's never heard of Math Metal.

Then I jump the shark twice...

Fintroll - Trollhammaren I have no idea what this dude's saying, but it sounds cool. Yes, that's Folk Metal and it is made of AWESOME and WIN.

Then I go all beserker on people...

Amon Amarth - Runes To My Memory Viking themed death metal FTW! Check out the synchronized headbanging...

Jumped the shark already, time to tap dance on it's pointy head...

GWAR - Penguin Attack These guys redefined Shock Rock into a politically incorrect nightmare full of gore, death, and fun. They totally do it for the LULZ.

And then we end it the way it began. Heavier then a great big, um... Heavy.. Thing.

Strapping Young Lad - Far beyond Metal Sing along with your windows down and people give you odd looks. Those people are lamers.

Angus,

Liked: Infectious Grooves, Anthrax, and loved In Flames. Did I read correctly that Metallicas bass player was in Infectious Grooves? I was digging the Strapping Young Lads video with the nukes up until he dropped the F bomb. Ya gotta out a parental advisory sticker on those links, lol. I had a hard time getting a Mettalica video yesterday because I couldent find a good live video where James wasn't being a potty mouth.

Others had good parts, but I can't get into the growling vocals alot of the new metal bands do. The intro riff to far beyond metal was great.

That's the thing about a lot of Metal, Gaz. Lot's of F-Bomb runs. Just have to do what I do when I listen to Rush or Dream Theater... Tune out the lyrics. In a lot of rock and metal, especially progressive/experimental stuff, I think the entire genre would be improved if they just ditched actual words.

But yeah, SYL's Devy has a mouth like a bastard hybrid of a diesel mechanic and a sailor.

And yes, Rob Trujillo was Suicidal Tendencies second or third bassist and Infectious Groove's bassist until he sold out, er... signed on with Metallisuck. Yes, I said it. Metallica sucks. They have since the black album. St. Anger was utter commercial garbage rock and what I've heard from their upcoming release makes me wish Cliff Burton would rise from the grave and beat Lars and James to death with an old Rickenbacker. I flat out challenge you to tell me this doesn't suck more then a $5 crack whore looking for a fix. Much like Eddie Van Halen, James was a lot cooler when he was drinking...

Angus,

Much like Eddie Van Halen, James was a lot cooler when he was drinking...

Hah hah hah. that's a horrible thing to say, but its true.

Its hard to be a Rock and roller when the wife and kids and age set in. Pink Floyd did it, and a few others, but they were playing a different type of music. Eddie and James I think just lost that inner fire for the genre. I don't think Eddie has figured out how to make the transition from what he was to what he could be. Maybe he should do a tour with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai or something.

James looked very disgruntled when I saw him on the St. Anger tour. Sure I had to suffer through the St.Anger stuff, but it was worth it to hear the older songs, not to mention Godsmack did an incredible opening set.

And yes, the new song and video really stink. I think its admirable for them to continue to try to make great new rock, but I don't think they have the attitude for it.

Now most of that was some true old school metal. RAWK!

That's one of those thoughts that keeps me up at night... Someday I'm gonna have kids and I'll tuirn on the "classic rock" station and they'll be playing the stuff I listen to now... And my kids will be all "Dad, what the crap is this old stuff?!"

Getting old has it's upsides and downsides I guess.

Eddie couldn't hang with the G3 tour. He was good, and he still has some chops, but he isn't anywhere near the level guys like Satriani, or Vai, or Petrucci are on. Like, I love Jimi Hendrix, but I understand that as much of a visionary as Hendrix was back in the 60s, compared to a lot of guitarists today his technique was woefully sloppy and his shred-fu was virtually non-existent. Eddie could shred to a certain point, had some good phrasing, and great technique, but compared to the guys on the G3 he's still just a self-taught garage guitarist done good.

That being said, Van Halen still rocks. Just ingore the album they did with the guy from Mister Big and it's all good times.

James looked very disgruntled when I saw him on the St. Anger tour.

Wouldn't you be a little disgruntled if most of the crowd were old fans that just came to hear you play your old songs and the rest were teen age Hot Topic shoppers that got their mom and dad to buy them the tickets? Metallica just needs to face facts and retire before they completely crap upon their legacy ala Toilet Death Elvis.

Also, if my side kicks were a scrotty little butthole and a chicken neck whiner like Lars and Kirk, I'd know I'd be pissed too.

not to mention Godsmack did an incredible opening set.

Godsmack rocks. If I was gonna join the military I'd go with the Navy simply because they have a seriosuly kick ass ad campaign. The Navy has crap like SEALs jumping out of helecopters and guys shooting ginormous missiles from badass warships... The Army has that lame "Army Strong" campaign, the Air Force went "into the blue" (more like into the gay, amirite?), and the Marines are still using the same slogan they've had since I was a little kid.

Godsmack just makes everything cooler I guess.

I think its admirable for them to continue to try to make great new rock, but I don't think they have the attitude for it.

I gotta disagree, homie. If your heart isn't into it anymore, then just stop and let younger, meaner, more rocking, and and more motivated bands take the lead. Give Metallica their own spot in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame and dust them off in a decade for a reunion tour or something, but for God's sake stop letting them make CDs.

Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien

Steve Vai - "For The Love Of God" - G3 1996

Van Halen - C.E. Third Kind / Cathedral / 316 / Eruption

John Petrucci - Glasgow Kiss - G3 2005

Petrucci is the reason people like Dream Theatre. It snice to see him step away from that band. I can't stand to listen to them myself. The lead singer is awful.

Metallica - Orion live
