Yep, a vocal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. More specifially the wrestling program, tops in the Nation.
A good friend pointed me towards this forum even as he left it because he found it too contentious. He likes to discuss things pro and con on a more intellectual level, without the arguing and pushing and rabbit punches. So, he left and now I am here checking it out.

We met in Utah where we were both attending BYU and, at that time, were solid believers it was The Lords University, buying into it full time to the tune of missions and all. He came back, taught and led 25-40 day mountaineering and desert survival trips and then went into the Army(volunteered- vietnam time) and ended up Special Forces and some kind of LURP thing.(Long Range Recon Patrols) As he came back he got more frustrated with BYU and stupidity and dropped from their grad school and moved far from Utah. Ended up coming back due to a wifes job offer and finally the both of them left again for good. He is a lot better off now.

I finished BYU and went to higher schooling much farther East, getting a degree and opening a business that has done OK through the years. Now retired. And no, other than visiting the kids who I did not talk out of BYU, I don't visit The Stepford State at all. Not even for skiing, I go to Idaho and Colorado for that.

Iowa is a nice place with good people and few Mormons compared to Utah. One of the best things about Iowa is the LDS members attitude towards 'Utah Mormons', kind of like most peoples attitudes towards cockroaches.

So, I will read some more and chime in from time to time. No great scholar on this stuff but do have a few nice diaries of early LDS family members who came across the plains and took part in the rush to leave the USA some from other early family members that helped a bit in the vengance against the Mormons in the early days. Hauns Mill Massacre and the infamous 'nits will make lice' is an ancestor here so we get to see it from both ends in family records and personal writings.

Hope to come on from time to time inbetween following Coach Brands and the Iowa Hawkeyes as they seek yet another NCAA wrestling Title. Too bad BYU chickened out and quit on the kids, but then they always were big on talk and short on performance from the command level. Was even there when Ernie the Attorney was spying on us students, Fred Davis was Wrestling Coach(Non LDS and an honest man and leader if ever there was one) and Tommy Hudspeth recruited the All Marine backfield for his football team while they helped make Virgil Carter a star at Quarterback. That was even before we know Paul Dunn was a liar and con man. I even have two relatives in Utah who hold stock in Bishop Coyles Dream Mine.

Good to have a fellow Big-10 fan on the board. I have to ask, are the Iowa wresting locker rooms for vistors painted pink like the football locker rooms for vistors are?
And inasmuch as my people shall assemble themselves at the Ohio, I have kept in store a blessing such as is not known among the children of men, and it shall be poured forth upon their heads. And from thence men shall go forth into all nations.

Yep, you got me pegged. My buddy is a major Iowa State fan and I point out Iowa is top dog. Somehow he can't see past old college friends kids as coaches.
As for Paul Dunn, both of us know more than enough about the bum. His folks lost a bundle investing in the financial scheme Dunn promoted to them when he was an active 70. Dunn really used the 'GA Act' big time in persuading them to invest.
Then we had the great faith promoting stories and books. Too bad the great story of his best friends death on the battlefield and Dunns promise to serve god turned out to be potash when his best friend was found alive and living in Kansas City. As for his major league career? Same as mine, nothing.

Didn't anyone above him ever get any inspiration that the guy was lying?

Great stories of great faith used to sell books and tapes, all making him money. Then the stories turn out to be lies. How much more do people need to see this is typical of a con artist? Just enough truth mixed into the lies to get you to invest/believe/follow. When found out and exposed the excuses start but no money is ever paid back. Pretty much a classic con.

Since I am visiting here and he showed me this site I posted. Looks as if Mormons from Utah are still at it. Sure glad BYUtah is behind me and I don't have to go there even for business. Bet Utah is glad I don't either. Idaho where he has been isn't too bad though it is highly Mormon populated. Good fishing and hunting in the Sawtooths. But nothing compares to Iowa. Just like the in the movie the description fits. "Is this heaven", "No, this is Iowa". Applies to the State and the Hawkeyes both.

Since I am just visiting my old roomie, helping brace a barn before winter and clearing out some gophers and what not am about ready to head back home.
He got me interested in wrestling at BYU. Had never been to a meet before then. As a result I semi-follow the sport. He intro'ed me to Dan Gable, the best coach around. So I am a Hawkeye fan while he suppports ISU now that BYU quit on the kids.

This forum is somewhat interesting but sure has a lot with the Utah Mormon attitude. Probably won't be back until I visit him again on my next trip.

Hope you get it all figured out, especially why a guy who is married to many women never wrote to more than one of them while sitting in jail cells. He asked me that one and I sure don't know why but it does sound pretty uncaring.
