Unfortunately, even a confession is not 100% proof to me although I consider it strong evidence. You see, the problem is that sometimes people actually will confess to crimes they didn't commit for various reasons. Depending on those reasons, such people should be punished of course.

When it comes to men sexually abusing and using children... yeah, I have NO tolerance. None.

As it is for most of us. The problem I have is in being sure that the real pervp was caught and is effectively prevented from being around children ever again. I also worry about lives being ruined by false accusations (and to some extent, false confessions). It's not that I'm willing to cut a child abuser some slack. It's that I'm very cautious about making sure it's the right guy. The problem with such caution is that the guilty sometimes go free. Prevention is, of course, much prefered to punishing wrongdoing. Indeed, I doubt that punishment is much of a deterrent--not that it is completely impotent in that regard. The problem with prevention is that it is perhaps more difficult than punishment (well, unless you kill everyone in which case no one will be left to hurt anyone else, but that seems to be self-defeating ;) ). Besides, we can easily get upset with pervps wheras it's harder to be know for sure what actions put someone at undue risk for becoming a victim (and even if someone does take risk, blaming the victim isn't going to help either the victim nor future potential victims).

A-man, I appreciate your empathetic approach. I am another who does not want to see injustice in any trial.

However you are not adressing the issue of Internet CHILD Pornograpy, as it is sent-out and available in this heinious sub-culture of devients and perverts on the most sickening level of child abuse.

Are you aware of the "How-To" down loads that instruct one how to: Pose, Utilize common articles such as pencils, baby-soothers, pets...with infants and toddlers!!! The best camera, lighting, lubricants to have on hand. How to desensitize little children to make them compliant...

Such activity IS traceable through cyber-space. The technics are here & effective. BUT the funding is not sufficeint to apprehend more than 3% of those active in this trade of debauchery.

Please read my post that precedes this one, a couple back, if you haven't already??

This IS terrorism with far greater future ramifications than what is receiving our present funding and misdirected attentions...
