Failed Abortion?
I never heard of such a thing until tonight. Apparently, there is a woman who is an "abortion survivor" and she runs the website: http://www.bornalivetruth.org/timeline.aspx
It has some interesting information about babies that are born, who were intended to be aborted, but managed to survive leaving the womb. As I understand the constitution, any fetus that is "born" as such, is automatically a citizen of the USA and has natural rights afforded to it like any other baby. But the law doesn't protect these babies apparently.
The Born Alive Infants Protection Act (Senate Bill 1095) was first introduced in the Illinois Senate back in 2001 to protect these babies, and Obama was one among many democrats who shot it down because he said he didn't think it would pass the constitutional test as it progressed.
This woman is pretty passionate about this subject, and she advertises “If Barack Obama had his way I would not be here.” That's not an unreasonable point to make if you think about it. It certainly isn't a falsehood.
At what point do you think killing a fetus/baby becomes murder? Meaning, when does it become a person with rights?
This is an answer I've never really been able to get from the pro-abortionists.

[MODERATOR WARNING:] Link to Gazelam's offensive image here
As I understand it, its not considered born unless the head is delivered. Am I correct in this?
This from wiki:
So according to this its not considered alive until the naval is cleared coming from either direction? And this can take place as late as what month? I have heard of these abortions taking place up till 8 months.
Any doctor that would do this should be strung up in the parking lot of their clinic and left till the birds have had their fill.

This from wiki:
In the U.S., a federal statute defines "partial-birth abortion" as any abortion in which the fetus is extracted "past the navel [of the fetus]... outside the body of the mother," or "in the case of head-first presentation, the entire fetal head is outside the body of the mother," in order to cause death of the fetus. The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the terms "partial-birth abortion" and "intact dilation and extraction" are basically synonymous

Gaz:
It's BANNED, Gaz.
That image that you posted should likewise be banned. I have to tell you, at least one female poster on this board will be offended/upset/horrified by that image and if she posts here, I'll back her to the flippin' hilt until you don't know what day it is.
Just sayin'

Jersey,
So at what point do you feel a fetus becomes a person? My wife knew when the Spirit entered her womb, so I will go with that. A mother knows when a life is within her.
And also I am glad to hear that the above image did in fact offend you. It was supposed to. And believe me, when I googled an image of partial birth abortion, that was the nice one that came up. We should all be damn good and angry that there are people in this world who want that ban repealed.

Before I answer your question, let me revisit my previous post and clarify for you.
GET THAT damned IMAGE OFF THE BOARD IT'S GOING TO HURT SOMEONE HERE.
I'll be back to see what you've decided.

Re: Failed Abortion?
Let me show you where you went wrong here, Gaz.
You:
I never once stated that the image offended me. I told you straight up that it would hurt one of our female posters.
And in your cockiness, you ignored that and went along on your merry way as if you'd done something smart.
You didn't.
I couldn't care less what image you post on this board however, when it comes to crossing a line to truly hurting someone, I'll defend them on the basis of shared femaleness alone.

Dart,
You live in Brazil, right?
What are their views/laws on abortion?
No offense, but why do you care about the laws of the US if you no longer live here?

Re: Failed Abortion?
Failed abortions are much less common now that they are legal. Any medical procedure can 'fail' for some reason.
(edited to remove stuff that could identify other people)
The science keeping premies alive has progressed to the point where a second trimester abortion is highly unlikely to happen with a healthy fetus - now an early delivery and incubation is more likely if the pregnancy is not an option. A third trimester abortion is only going to occur with a fetus that will not survive birth anyway - and is analogous to removal of life-support after birth. In these cases parents have had to make heart-breaking decisions, as would anyone with a child on life support. I have friends who discovered their kicking and rolling 20 week fetus had no brain to speak of. Conflating the issue with pregnancy 'choice' is thoughtless and cruel. My friends carried to term (their choice) and the baby never breathed. An extra 20 weeks of risk to the mum, pain, and heart-break. My friends would not make the same choice again.
Your abortion survivor is hatemongering based on outdated practices - unless she is some highly gifted 3 year-old. This is an attempt to conflate medical issues and procedures and is pretty sick.

Is it morally right to let such a child be born if you knew beforehand?
