"Mormon Church"

Post by _Dwight Frye »

Is the Mormon Church sending mixed messages?

From the Mormon Church's Style Guide:

NEWSROOM - The Official Resource for News Media, Opinion Leaders, and the Public wrote:
While the term "Mormon Church" has long been publicly applied to the Church as a nickname, it is not an authorized title, and the Church discourages its use.

From Mormon.org - Members' Stories:

Members of the Mormon Church on an Official Website for the Mormon Church wrote:
"Something was missing. I found the missing ingredients at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)."

"I was searching for some spiritual answers. A friend introduced me to the Mormon Church."

"What I learned seemed natural and familiar to me. I felt very comfortable when I visited the Mormon Church."

"Simon explains that the way he spent his life was not consistent with what he wanted. As he learned the truth of the Mormon Church, he made changes in his life."

"Society makes you feel it's not okay to stay home with your kids. Embracing motherhood and womanhood is celebrated by the Mormon Church."

"If you ask God questions, He will confirm what is true. This is how I learned that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church) is Jesus Christ's restored Church."

"Irene’s question of why we have families, children, and life itself, if we’re just going to die, led her to the Mormon Church for answers."

"When I agreed to visit a Mormon Church service with a friend, I was apprehensive. But when I entered the building I felt as if I was home."

"In my search for truth and knowledge I studied with many churches, but they had to center around Jesus Christ. I found my answers in the Mormon Church."

"Before joining the Mormon Church I didn't know life was painful. Now, after learning principles about living an honest life, there is so much joy in my life." (Also, what an idiotic statement.)

"After overcoming a serious illness, I knew I needed to do something more with my life. Through the Mormon Church I have been able to draw nearer to God and receive guidance from Him."

"What to Expect at a Mormon Church"

"For me, investigating the Mormon Church was difficult. I had a hard time wrapping my mind around God visiting a young farm boy."

"As I investigated The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church), I read scriptures and prayed and also developed a relationship with Jesus Christ."

"Through the Mormon Church I found a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and God."

"The Mormon Church has allowed me to see that our Father in Heaven wants us to know the truth."

"A Friend Introduced Me to the Mormon Church"

"The Mormon Church helped me understand how to find lasting peace and happiness."

The right hand of the Mormon Church knoweth not what the left hand of the Mormon Church doeth. Kinda funny.

I think it knows very well and I agree with the methodology. To the media and other potentially neutral or hostile parties, we are the COJCOLDS. To seeking individuals, we are whatever identifies us in their minds.

So the Mormon Church "discourages its use" as it simultaneously perpetuates it.

Got it.

Guess were Mitt learned to speak out of both sides of his flip-flopping mouth?

Politics in a left wing state.

Your argument is a non sequitur as COJCOLDS and Mormon Church are the same thing in this context.

Maybe it is further revelation.
Since almost everything else in LDS history has changed at some point in time, I would not expect the name to stick either.

Odd though. We do not want the media to call us the Mormon Church nor do we want that to be the official name in any respect. But we do not want the FLDS or any other polyg group to use Mormon because we say it is ours and ours alone to use.

or not use..
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

No, I think the Church works within the realm of the reality which is that others perpetuate it, we collect the converts and teach.
