I know what 60 lbs feels like (the standard eye witness account). I lift weights at the local gym and the bench press bar itself is 55 lbs. I could run a fair distance with it, much farther and easier if it was only 7 x 8 x 4 inches.

Make it realistic. What are the historic details of this course? The ostensible familiarity with this story is great enough that someone should be able to come up with them pretty quickly.
