I gotta hand it to Henry Eyring...
Skipping around his conference talks, I noticed he can turn the tears and crackled voice on and off like a binary switch.
However, until he can add a quivering bottom lip, I don't see it as convincing as the sheeple do.

... our church isn't true, but we have to keep up appearances so we don't get shunned by our friends and family, fired from our jobs, kicked out of our homes, ... Please don't tell on me. ~maklelan

I love President Eyring.
One moment in annihilation's waste,
one moment, of the well of life to taste-
The stars are setting and the caravan
starts for the dawn of nothing; Oh, make haste!

I too love Pres. Eyring, particularly in this respect. At the risk of ridicule, I'll admit that I have often found it difficult to control my emotions when the spirit confirms what I am saying at the pulpit. Its something I am working on. I am encouraged by seeing others (such as Pres. Eyring) who have had to work on this same issue and are doing so admirably.
And inasmuch as my people shall assemble themselves at the Ohio, I have kept in store a blessing such as is not known among the children of men, and it shall be poured forth upon their heads. And from thence men shall go forth into all nations.

Are you saying that Eyring is up there trying NOT to cry? It doesn't come across that way to me.
As you did, I think most other believers will attach the notion of holy spirit to Eyrings emotional expressions on the pulpit. Why would he try to restrict that?

I think he's just trying to give his address.

Precisely. He tries to choke it back for the same reason I do - it interferes with the message.

Some guys just cry easily. Count me among them.
Eyring is fantastic. He's one of the few in the current 12+3 that strike me as being completely genuine on the pulpit.
I also knew a guy who dated his daughter... said he was a total geek. Liked making banana bread.

I don't get your idea of the holy spirit then. It seems to be an entity that 1)Inspires a prophet with the words the world needs to hear; and 2)Interferes while that prophet tries to deliver those words to the world.

An interesting paradox, no?
