AP Report on last night's Prop 8 fireside ....
See link below. in my opinion, trying to pass a consitutional amendment to discriminate against gays and lesbians is NOT "the work of the Lord" (as claimed by Russell Ballard), but the farthest thing from it.

Yeah, well I don't consider apostates or unbelievers a good judge of what is and is not the work of the Lord. Man knowing a master he never served and all that.

Based on the church's history on political and social issues, there's a very, very good chance they are fighting a losing battle.
Fortunately they have a loophole. If in 30 years or so it does turn out they were on the wrong side of history, they can just claim these people were acting on their own, and the church has never discriminated against gays.

Based on our own prophecy it's a sure thing we're fighting a losing battle so we're agreed there.
I think we'll stick with the 'wrong side of history' on this till the end of time. Feel free to say "I told you so" if I'm wrong.

Suppose when these Utahans who call people in California that they will disclose they are calling from Utah? I ask as last night because I had two messages on my machine last night both calling for political candidate and both saying where they were calling from - one said they were calling form out of state.
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

You seem comfortable being wrong all the time ..

Do you still stick to the wrong side of history regarding blacks and the priesthood?

No, I think God wanted them not to have the Priesthood until a day in 1978 and then changed it.
I am sure that homosexual marriages are not approved by God now. Could he change this in the future? Yes, but I doubt he will. Even if he does the counsel I have now I choose to obey.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

This will be 1978 all over again except this time the stakes are much higher.
I predict that 20 year down the road, the LDS position will stick out like a sore thumb. By that time, anyone under 40 in the Church will consider the position to be an embarrassment and "the opinions of man". It will start to impact baptisms and LDS political leaders will find themselves awkwardly defending their position. Other universities will stop interacting with BYU and some will withdraw from sports competitions. BYU professors will be blackballed from conferences and the will not be invited to speak. Extreme right wing organizations will begin to align themselves more readily with the Church.
The Church will, in a few years, be forced to chose between gutting itself theologically or become a backwater church.
The LDS Church will not survive this fight in any recognizable form. Surely the brethren recognize this and hence the effort and money.
