You know how it goes with the church and paying tithing, can't tithe on gambling winnings, that would be enabling, right? But this isn't:

http://www.vegas.com/resorts/summerlin/

Casino: Yes, the 50,000-square-foot Rampart Casino. 1,139 Slot, Video Poker, and Keno machines, and Megabucks. Forty table games, including Blackjack, Craps, Baccarat, Poker and Roulette.
Race & sports book: Yes, a 90-seat race and sports book, equipped with 14 televisions and five big screens

LOL!
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

All of us should use our influence as citizens to combat all attempts to use the evils of gambling as a means of accomplishing some supposed social good. We should also heed the counsel of our Church leaders, who are “unalterably opposed to gambling in any form whatever” and who ever counsel us to keep ourselves clean and unspotted from the sins of the world.

yeah...

I remember when members were preparing for the trek back to Missouri, (we had a member in a previous ward who was actually building a wagon, and moved to a farm to have horses in preparation).

Zion was in Missouri and the Saint would walk there and gather, live the law of consecration, the Priesthood would save the country and Christ would return.

I haven't heard these teachings in quite some time. Today Zion is considered any Stake center, no one is preparing to live the law of consecration, and no one seems to think they will have to walk to Missouri.

We may hear the occasional talk about the last days (less since 2000 came and went), but the fear and trembling and dooms day prophecy is just not taught much anymore.

In terms of Marriott and porn... here we have the LDS church X a guy for making a calendar with shirtless former missionaries and yet Marriott can sell the most explicit porn available and gets one of the highest jobs in the LDS church.

Yeah, something is not quite right here.

And, anyone who thinks Marriott can't make the changes if he wanted doesn't know what it means to be a CEO, President of a company, and major stock holder.

The church in my opinion has always had a double standard when it comes to popular, wealthy, and powerful members.

The sad thing is, the calendar wasn't even porn. It wasn't even soft porn. It was a bunch of guys with no shirt on... big deal. Any beach in the country... heck, any swimming pool in Utah... is loaded with them. The problem was, the guy connected the shirtless men with LDS missionaries, which indirectly connected his calendar with the church.

Marriott doesn't make the porn; he just sells it. And he doesn't connect it with the church. No one entering a Marriott hotel would ever connect the cable service with the LDS church.

I'm surprised he's still a GA, but I think the leaders that know about his sale of porn (which may or may not be a substantial number of them) know that the members by and large don't know about it. And as long as the members don't know, the money continues to roll in.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Marriott has a Blog, for any who are interested.

He belongs to the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy, which presides over North America Central, North America East, North America Northeast, North America Southeast, North America Southwest, and Caribbean Areas.

Area Seventy are not General Authorities:

Members of the Third through Eighth Quorums of the Seventy are not general authorities, and generally maintain their temporal vocations. Unlike apostles and members of the First and Second Quorums, they are not required to relocate to Salt Lake City in order to be close to church headquarters. Members of these quorums are area seventies. As assigned, they carry out the duties typically carried out by members of the First and Second Quorums of Seventy,[17] which include reorganizing and creating stakes, training stake presidencies, presiding at stake conferences, serving in area presidencies, touring missions, and training mission presidents. They serve in their callings for approximately six to ten years. Upon their release, they cease to be area seventies and members of a quorum of the seventy, but they retain the priesthood office of seventy.
