What's your opinion of the new IGNORE feature?

Now that the new friend/foe feature, a.k.a. the ignore feature, has been activated for a while and there are apparently several people using it, it's time to find out how everyone feels about it.

Feel free to add any comments here that you wish.

I voted that it is great and have ignored people. I've considered ignoring everyone here to further improve my experience.

I never use ignore (believe in free speech for all), and have no friends or foes listed. Basically, I've ignored ignore.

I won't use it. I have no problem skipping over posts manually if I think they are stupid or don't add to the conversation. There are a few whose posts I routinely bypass or just skim and ignore. I just scroll past their verbose nonsense.

If I were someone who used that kind of feature, I would likely have put Pirate on ignore right off the bat. Then I would have missed out on some real gems, because it took a while to get to know and appreciate her 'style.'

I don't use it myself, but after spending a little bit of time on this board it is easy enough to see why some would find it useful. It gets a thumbs-up from the D-Frye man.

I voted that I don't have anyone on Ignore, but it's a better experience because as a Mod, I don't get as many gripes from posters who want an Ignore feature. ;)

I didn't select an option. I don't really care if someone has me on ignore or not. If that makes them happy, then great. Personally, I think it's ridiculous. People need to learn how to deal with dissent, and contrarian opinions. Real life consequences of "head in the sand" behavior is calamitous.

I have no problem with dissent or contrary opinions - I would never block posters simply because I didn't agree with them. Rather, I'll admit to ignoring a couple of posters because their contributions are either merely intended to inflame or they consistently add no substance. This way I can read through a thread without being distracted or annoyed by the "static."

As an additional aside, statements that "people need to learn how to deal with" something are nonsense in this context. Nobody is obligated to listen to or read anything they don't want to. I don't open my door to solicitors (or home teachers for that matter) if I don't want to; I don't read spam emails; I don't read junk mail; and I don't engage in conversation with everybody that calls me on the phone. These are the choices I make. The same applies to message boards that I frequent (why would that be any different?). And if I can make use of a "caller ID" feature that lets me move past posts that I am not interested in, then I'm all for it.

Ah, I didn't even see how to implement it (silly me, looking for an "Ignore" button somewhere).

But I wouldn't use it anyway. As others have mentioned, I can chose to skip posts if I don't feel like reading them, and I do that quite regularly. But there is always a time I'll want to read something from pretty much everyone here. It's all about context.

The fact is I'm not easily offended.
