Raleigh and Atlanta Get Togethers

Post by _John Larsen »

Based on the feedback received so far, I have decided to split into two separate get togethers. The first will be in:

Raleigh NC
Saturday November 8th

The tentative plan is to meet in a park for a family lunch picnic. I need help. For those of you in the area, I need assistance to select a good location and an alternative location in case of weather. As I get more details in the coming days I will post our location. So as not to miss the post, make sure to email me. Also, if you are interested in helping out in any way, please email me. I will be bringing my young children (4 & 6) so all ages are welcome. No alcohol is allowed in public parks in NC.

The second is

Atlanta, GA
Saturday December 6th

Atlanta is about 7 hours for me, so I am in need of help getting this one coordinated or it will push until January. I believe we will have more people traveling a greater distance, so I will need even more help.

DC in the future? I need an excuse to go there.

These dates are tentative and my change to accommodate the schedules of the greatest number of people. If you are interested in helping to plan or just to be in the know, please email me and I will start an email list: johnjohnlarsen@yahoo.com. It really won’t take that much work to pull it off and you don’t need to worry about getting suckered into a calling. All of those who said they were interested I will send a PM to, but you can save me the effort and email me directly.

Listen up! I have done this before. This may seem hard or a pain, but meeting others like yourself will be the best thing you have done in a long time. I drive by a Mormon Church every day that looks like it was plucked out of Sandy, so I know you are here. You are needed.

By the way, we do not care about your membership status or attitude toward the Church at all. If you are willing to have a friendly afternoon with Post Mormon families, then you are wanted here.

If you have other concerns please contact me.

What??

We're freakin' adults, man. Tir na nog. Or Raleigh Times. Or The Big Easy. Or crap man, Yancey's. Hell, Charlie Goodnight's would be awesome.

There's soooo much to do in Raleigh, and youz wantz to go to a park?? Blech. My vote is Yancey's, some pop-funk, jazz-fusion, Afro-American in yo' face bad-assedness!

C'mon. Don't be a pussy!

This sounds really cool! Raleigh is about an hour away from me, so I'm not as familiar with the parks, etc., but I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

Also, if any of you will be in the area on Thursday, November 6th, you're welcome to attend a Musical Theater Master Class at my house. There is more details in the Events thread. PM me if you're interested in coming.

I am with you, and I would suggest we might plan something for Saturday night--which is why I put this in the day time. However, I am certain that some of those places may not look to kindly on kids.

When trying to get people together who have never met, it is best to start in a neutral non-threatening place. After people are introduced, I am hoping for some more adult friendly activities. Baby steps my friend.

Why does it have to be an either/or proposal? Some people may not be able to get babysitters, especially if they are traveling, etc. I think the park is a nice idea.

There isn't anything saying we couldn't do a family activity in the afternoon and an adult activity at one of the clubs you mentioned later in the evening.

That's what many people would have thought . . . until I came along.
