Re: MDB Survivor
Jersey Girl, thank you for the cleverness of your first reply. Very few of us would want to serve on that decorating committee.
I hope this does not become an ongoing spat. To me the best attitude would be to respect all posters, no matter what position they take.

Neither.
Why would you ask. Even though I think what much you you post in nonsense I would not want to restrict you. That is against the nature of this board,

Actually, Scratch, what I have complained about as tiresome, are your threads which attack DCP.
I've known you for roughly about three years. I enjoyed our exchanges on what was then, the FAIRboard; I further enjoyed many of the threads you started and engaged in on Shades' "old" board.
If you recall, when you were falsely accused of maligning DCP on RfM, I backed you publicly on both this board, on FAIR, and also in private to the FAIR Mods, in a futile attempt to get your membership on FAIR reinstated.
Your threads, however, over the past six months, have, in my opinion, grown tiresome. You have stated your positions regarding the wrongs which you feel DCP committed ad nauseam. What I don't understand, is that you should, actually feel vindicated in the response you have received.
DCP has posted over on this board, and has dialogued directly with you. He has admitted to many of your "accusations", such as his interaction with Quinn, and his conversation with the gentleman in connection with the SCMC.
He has given his side of these situations, and has not apologized for his actions.
Did you REALLY expect him to "roll over" and AGREE with you?
Frankly, I think that was expecting a little much.
I think that you should consider the fact that he engaged you a victory.
The posters are about evenly divided in their views of DCP, from what I have read here. So, you have been able to influence posters' opinion of DCP, for better or worse.
Frankly, I think that if you "lost" this little poll, it would be interesting to see you engage in some conversations in the Celestial Forum, that are more of a scholarly nature, dealing with more topics involving direct inconsistencies of Church doctrine.
Again, just my two cents. ;)

Well, Moksha, I had hoped that wouldn't be the case either. I suggested that Jersey PM me in order to talk things over, and she blew me off, stating that she was "not interested."

This is further evidence to my comment on the previous page:
Liz wrote:If Scratch really wanted to be statistically correct, he would add a category to his poll stating, "Choosing to abstain because this poll is stupid."
However, if he had included that option at the beginning of the voting, I strongly feel it would have the bulk of the votes. ;)
There have been over 200 views of this thread, yet only 16 people have chosen to even vote.

Well, that's where I would wind up. The scholarly discussions would probably consist primarily of analysis of FARMS Review, and of rhetoric as it is practiced in that "journal." But, see, I can already anticipate a problem: would you, as a moderator, really be interested in booting down DCP's endless "This is a Standard Response," or Jersey Girl's "look at what a tough chick drama queen I can be" posts? I'd be happy to post in Celestial, but I foresee it being a moderating nightmare.

Poor form, Scratch.
Scottie--
What do you propose? That I cease posting altogether?
Nope. I would never de-invite anyone from posting on this board.

Gee, thank you so much for the useful suggestion.
Re: MDB Survivor
Initially I opted not to vote, as three others have done. However, I decided to make a sort of "Solomon's wisdom" decision (think of his way to determine who was the real mother of the baby), and vote against Jersey Girl. I think she's one of the more entertaining and interesting posters, largely because she's unpredictable, and I would hate to see her stop posting (in any forum), but since she didn't agree to the put a stake in this (had she, I would not have voted), and I didn't want to see Scratch stop posting in the Terrestrial (or anyone), I voted that way.
I happen to agree with Bob that "oppositional ideas" are needed, and the Terrestrial is the most used forum. That's what message boards are about. The on-going feud between DCP and Scratch had no bearing on my decision, and in my opinion has reached a stalemate. I don't know how many other posters thought as I did, but I don't think voting this way is any indication of the "make-up" of the board. The "make-up" of this board, as I see it, is to debate, and to challenge ideas, and personalities should have little to do with that. In this mixture, the "great man theory of history" * is null and void. This board isn't about the cult of personality, but about sifting good and bad ideas and thinking. You win some, and you lose some. Some days you're the dog, other days you're the pole.
*The Great man theory is a theory held by some that aims to explain history by the impact of "Great men", or heroes: highly influential individuals who, due to either their personal charisma, intelligence and wisdom or Machiavellianism used power in a way that had a decisive historical impact.

Jersey Girl and DCP are both aware of the rules in Celestial. I trust that they would remain on topic. If they did not, it would be dealt with. However, you would also have to make sure that your threads were not attacks of DCP's character. Frankly, many of your threads which we have allowed in Terrestrial have been "barely over the line", in that regard.
