Why Isn't This Board More Popular?

I've posted over 4,000 times on this board over like the last 2 years. You think I hate this place?

It's my observation. You wanna discuss, then just start a new thread about you. You're constantly demanding posters to rehearse your sillyness after you've been just that. Quality and substance, Jersey Girl.

Just my opinion and I'm a lone man crying in the wilderness, so don't worry about it.

Your mission from God is not to tract but to derail and divert attention, making intellectual argument you disagree with difficult to follow or appear invaluable. Why don't you make an on topic argument occasionally? I find your style disagreeable in and outside of the Mormon church.

I've stated why I'm here on a number of occasions (why the site has been popular to me). I think it is a core reason why more used to participate.

When I began to engage a year + ago, I did it to work out some very deep seated issues in my soul about the belief system that was eroding all about me. At the time it was a good place to discuss and disect Mormon beliefs and to determine what was worth holding on to. I posted a great deal in the Celestial forum and there was much good dialog. Things have changed over time. Now it's dead there.

If this is not particularly what the site is about, I am mistaken. At least this was what it was to me last year.

I would like to see it emulate those things that welcomed me here then.

Actually, I think it has the opposite effect. The most-read threads are the ones in which there is drama-llama activity. It's true. That's what people love and hate about drama. It stresses them out, but they also are addicted to it. This thread, for all intents and purposes, was DOA until I posted something truly horrible, but true. Nevertheless it birthed about a dozen more posts in relatively short order whereas before it just wasn't doing much of anything.

by the way, I would never ignore. I'd just hug you, and hold you close. And we'd slow dance because everything will be ok... Everything will be ok...

Oh, and people do lurk here. I had no idea until I received a nice pm yesterday from someone. So this board has a lot of transient activity. It'll grow sometimes, and it'll shrink others. I wouldn't stress about it.

The thing is, we don't know what issues are eroding your soul, Inc. So does that mean we'll see a lot more threads started by you in the near future? On a board as open as this is, each individual must bring their own bowl to the table; no one serves them here. We must all be responsible for our own learning.

The reason why this board isn't more popular is because very very few Mormons will actually engage in conversations where they are routinely insulted and their beliefs demeaned. And there are very very few non-LDS people who will actually engage in conversations with Mormons without referencing subjects that are off-limits.

So what we have here is a very unique group of people.

I sure wish more Mormons would post here to give this place some balance. There should be something appealing to Mormons to experience an "all voices allowed" type of forum.

The problem is, Mormons have been conditioned to view any sort of freedom of speech vis-a-vis Mormonism to be automatically anti-Mormon, so they'll usually avoid such a place like the plague.

No, I think it goes back to when most people were taught in the playground that when some kids were being mean you just avoid them and go play with the nicer kids you actually want to be friends with, nothing to do with what Mormons specifically are taught.

If you wish to test this I suggest creating a free-speech Catholic board and invite the insulting posters here over there and have them mock Catholicism the way they do Mormonism. A few Catholics will come. Most will leave quickly and only a few will stay.

I've enjoyed my experience on this board overall. I've enjoyed it because it causes me think about those things that are generally not discussed in GD class. I think it is important to listen with understanding and make efforts to appreciate "all voices". Not that it is always obvious that this is practiced in reality at times. Doing this can help each of us develop a solid worldview that fits reality. Even though that worldview/reality may differ. I've always liked this quote from Joseph Smith:

By proving contraries, truth is made manifest.
