Post by _Brackite »

Hi all Here,

Here is the latest news information on the new latest Poll on Proposition 8, out within California.

Prop. 8 still trailing, but gap is narrowing, poll says
A Field Poll of likely voters finds the measure, which would ban gay marriage, trailing by five percentage points -- 49-44, with 7% undecided. In September, the margin was 14 points.

Less than a week before the election, a new Field Poll shows a measure to ban gay marriage in California trailing in the polls -- but the race is narrowing.

The poll also shows Barack Obama with a 22-point lead over John McCain among likely California voters, with 55% supporting the Democrat versus 33% supporting the Republican. This would be the biggest victory margin of any candidate since World War II in the state.

The fight over Proposition 8, which would amend the California Constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman, is much closer, according to the survey.

The Field Poll of 966 likely voters, conducted between Oct. 18 and 28, shows 49% opposed to the measure, 44% in favor and 7% undecided. The race is narrowing. A September Field poll showed the measure trailing by 14 points, 52% to 38%.

The new poll also found that "significant proportions" of voters on both sides are conflicted about the issue.

Women are more likely to oppose Proposition 8 than men, the poll reports; 51% of women and 47% of men surveyed oppose the measure. It also found that respondents who said they personally knew a gay person were more likely to be opposed than respondents who said they did not.

They'd wanna hope so or their precious tax exempt status will be threatened again.

If this poll used the traditional 'likely voter' model, it won't hold up in an election where turnout is very high, as it has been already this year. That model undercounts new voters, who have not been reliable in the past. That's how some polls show McCain fairly close, by assuming young, minority, and newly registered voters will not show up.

The larger the turnout, the more likely this measure is to go down (and the more likely we will see a presidential landslide).

I have this brilliant idea,
I think California Constitution should this time allow 8 year old male/females to vote over this proposition, hence the baptism age is eight and they know how to separate good from evil.

Although I don't live in California anymore, I sincerely hope that Prop 8 does NOT pass.

Since gay marriage has been allowed prior, passing Prop 8 would take away rights from those who have already received it. In my opinion, this is not right.

I'm thinking it might pass. People might more generally think it's stupid, but the amount of energy I see against it is far less than for it. So it just might be one of those higher turnout cases. There are two intersections in my area that are jam packed with "yes on 8" supporters.

Not up in my area.

I hear nothing but no on 8 ads on the radio.

I hope so. Of course, we should not have to be going through this again. Ron George and his three stooges need to read what the founders and Supreme Court justices have written about the role of the judiciary and judicial restraint. (Or, more appropriately, have those statements read to them.) Indeed, a real Republican governor, as opposed to half-ass Arnold, would have refused to execute their judgment because it does not rest in the constitution and is, therefore, illegitimate.

From the article:
It also found that respondents who said they personally knew a gay person were more likely to be opposed than respondents who said they did not.

This is a good indication that the effort is counting on bigotry, which is always caused by ignorance. For those who have gay friends and family, it's much more difficult to demonize and to talk about the scary 'gay agenda' and such.
