Is this an "ex-Mormon board"? I could swear I read somewhere that Shades has an open policy, and he hasn't even escaped my criticism, and that Mormons/ex-Mormons/whomever, are free to respond to any criticism. Nevermind.

At the 19th annual Child Abuse and Family Violence Conference in Salt Lake City Wednesday, FBI Special Agent Jeff Ross pointed out that according to Google Trends, Salt Lake City is tops in the nation when it comes to Internet searches for words such as "Jesus," "chocolate" and "home recipes."

That may not be surprising. But what is a little more eye- opening is that the city also ranks No. 1 on the site for Internet searches for terms such as "nudity," "naked girls," "pornography" and "strip tease." Furthermore, Salt Lake is No. 2 in the nation for Google searches of such words as "hot sex" and "naughty."

Ironically, the city also ranks No. 2 for "family values."

In other disturbing rankings, according to Google Trends as related by the FBI, the city is:

-- Fifth in the nation for searches regarding "incest."

-- Seventh for searches on "child pornography."

-- Eighth for searches on "sex."

-- Tenth for searches on "pedo," short for pedophile.


The Salt Lake office of the FBI, which also covers Idaho and Montana, is tops in the nation for the number of arrests, indictments and convictions, Ross said.

Have you noticed the barrage of hate accusations launched at anybody who says they voted 'yes'? They can be a cool cat one day and the next they are vilified and cyber tarred. It is amazing. I think mainly where child porn or other illegal activities is concerned. But nobody is really "anonymous" on the Internet. Hackers can easily trace your identity and "Internet habits", if they want to scrutinise you. The federal police in many countries have computer experts tracking those who frequent things like child porn sites. If they don't get you, computer repair technicians, for example, who may find illegal porn on your hard-drive, may report you to the police.

Google records all of your searches, but they are seldom investigated unless illegal activity is suspected or discovered. With millions on the Internet, it's rare, but they can detail "most popular" hits to any region or country.

Oh, for heaven's sake!

Outed? Well, call me silly, but I don't find it at all surprising that the many of the regulars here have a more liberal political leaning than is found on MADB. DUH!

Constantly? Sexual problems? Hangups? Of course many of the threads recently have been focused on homosexuality. It's been prominently focused in the news because of Prop 8, and especially of interest to the folks here because of the LDS church involvement. However, discussion doesn't automatically mean support. And generally supporting the ballot measure doesn't automatically translate to support of every other homosexual agenda.

It's possible to separate the gay secular agenda from a religious discussion. The two are not necessarily joined.

I'm unable to ascertain any sexual problems and hangups of posters here from their words on my computer screen. I must not be as discerning as BC is.

Sexual hangups? LOL. I'd bet dollars to donuts that the MADB posters, in general, have far more and wierd hangups about sex than the apostates on this board. Far, far more, and of a wierder nature.

Apostates, at least those who go for atheism rather than some other brand of Christianity (which is most of us), seem to have a much freer and less inhibited view on sexuality, meaning, for instance, that we don't shudder in horror at the idea that most people masturbate, or that some people (shock, horror!) are having sex with their girlfriend or boyfriend out of wedlock. And many of us don't fear and despise gay people the way many active LDS do.

And yes, I do believe that many, if not most active LDS feel an irrational fear of homosexuality, and are bigoted against it - and this despite all their protestations to the contrary. Some, such as BCSpace and Gazelam, and Wade Englund, are pretty overt in their bigotry, and many of the rest just don't respect gays as fellow citizens, and have some kind of gut fear, whether they will admit this or not. Smac97 over on the MADB board just can't help himself from posting anything and everything he reads on WorldNetDaily about what the gays are doing, etc.

The bold is laughable. In my experience we tend to judge people who articulate our position as intelligent, and the others as fools no matter how well they demonstrate intelligence in other areas (academia, language, profession, creativity, etc.).

I'd say that Professors who advocate something as silly as "Book of Mormon historicity" should be considered "fools". The Flat Earth Society still exists. So why have I placed quotation marks on "fools"? Not because they're silly old fools. They've very smart, but they're emotionally attached to the idea something must either be true, or a fraud. I've never attached myself to that idea, because as Joseph Campbell said, you can learn from all the religious mythologies in history. You just have to be discerning in what you accept.
