For ex-missionaries to/from downunder

A report by Native Affairs on CCNZ:

http://www.maoritelevision.com/programm ... ollege.htm

Closing CCNZ will result in huge drop in activity in NZ, IMHO. Am sure someone has not crunched the numbers properly on this. So many families remained active to ensure their children could get to CCNZ, and CCNZ provided the peer support the kids needed to get through adolescence without 'falling away'. Most of my old peers are still TBM. The argument that adequate schooling is provided elsewhere is technically true. But the social supports for success needed by many young Maori are not available at many schools - and certainly not at public ones.

I really enjoyed my time at CCNZ, even though I started thinking my way out while there. Philip Hague, who is interviewed in the movie clip was the poor old seminary teacher who had to field my conumdrums in those pre-internet days.

I enjoyed watching the views of Hamilton once again. Haven't been there since 1978. Seems like they've done a lot of work on the grounds of the temple since then.

I always sensed that for many of the Maori the Church was more of a traditional/social thing. When I attended the ward in Hamilton the youth at the back were so loud I thought I was at a Wallabies/All Blacks game.

Thanks for the link, Danna.

What a beautiful campus. It's a shame that something that has the potential to bring about so much long term good could be founded upon so many dark lies.

It just didn't seem appropriate for the producer to tie Iz's song into the background. The church and Iz's message are two different ideas.

Their claim that the money saved from the closure will be better spent around the globe is just a smoke screen.

LDS Inc is tightening its belt. Death of older tithe paying members, defections, less converts, current members not paying full tithes, and smaller returns on LDS investments is taking a toll.

This is good news.

Isn't the church opening up a branch of BYU in Salt Lake City?

Sorry New Zealand Moaris, the money previously used to support the primary college in this area of yours is better spent allowing yet more white Utah Mormons to attend BYU.

Sounds kind of lame if you ask me - but hey, if the community fills the vacuum, which the news piece says is being pursued, then maybe this will be a net gain for the Maoris, as one educational opportunity irreducibly combined with indoctrination in a false religious worldview, is replaced with just a good secular educational opportunity.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
