Re: We're bleeding and I think it's terminal
I think another obstacle is that most MAD residents refer to this board as a hate spewing sewer...or something similar. Many would be lurkers are frightened off before they even give it a chance.
If there's one thing I've learned from this board, it's that consensual sex with multiple partners is okay unless God commands it. - Abman

Is it I?

Dr. Shades wrote:That's what the ignore feature is for. Now nobody has any excuse for complaining about the way other posters choose to interact.
Was that the original intended purpose of the ignore feature... to shield our resident moron from the consequences of his words?
Good to know. And you wonder why people beat feet, however quietly.
Another one left this morning.
How do you know?
It's called the PM feature, Shades.
That's 3 in 3 days. Will anyone notice they are gone? They didn't leave a parting message on any thread, to be a target for snide comments and parting shots from the likes of PP and others.
If they didn't leave a parting message, then you have no way of knowing that that's three in three days (or any other number in any other number of days).
Don't tell me what I know, Shades. I know very few things, but this is one of the few. They left me a parting message; they just didn't leave one for you, or for PP, or for anyone else to target. And why should they? So they could be ridiculed one last time, jeered at one last time, targeted for PP and his friends, one last time?
They took the target off their backs and left. I'm the stupid one, for actually thinking pointing out that the level of discourse in this place has fallen to a new low, and for three of our most learned, even-handed posters, they've had enough, would be enough to make some changes here. Obviously I am both stupid and naïve.
They're just fading away. We are less with their loss.
So what are you doing to reverse that trend?
At least I'm talking about it. I didn't ignore it, didn't ridicule them, didn't marginalize their concerns. I brought it to this thread. What have you done? Nothing, that I've seen, except doubt me, imply I'm lying, and generally get in my face.
Thanks. Where I come from, friends don't do that.
But by all means, let us all sustain the board as presently constituted. Even after all this time of being away from the church for some of our posters, this place is run just like it. The inability to see one's own bleeding isn't solely a church phenomena. The lack of vision, . . .
??? You think this board lacks vision? The first and only LDS-themed board that doesn't censor, ban, or queue posters, and welcomes anyone from any side of the LDS question, and you say we lack vision??
You're forgetting rpcman's board, which, I believe, is still active. 2think, if I remember right.
In your opinion, just what, exactly, counts as "vision" if not that?
A way to actually make it work. Just because an idea exists doesn't mean it will work.
. . .the brushing aside of suggestions for improvement, . . .
Okay, I give. What are your suggestions for improvement? I promise I won't "brush them aside."
Change the rules for this forum. Move 99% of PP's comments to Telestial. Raise the discourse from subterranean to at least ground level.
. . . the "all's well on the board" is so close to the "All's well in Zion" we're fed from the pulpit, it's incredible.. and pathetic.
As Rollo Tomasi said, people come and go from message boards all the time. Forgive me for not panicking.
Forgive me for reading "snide comment" into your words.
Okay, let's buck that trend: I respectfully suggest that you list the things that need to be different around here to make this board a good enough place that those posters will return.
I really would like to know.
Move comments like 99% of PP's to Telestial. Expect the level of discourse to rise to something like Trixie's thread on the Mountain Meadows book. why would anyone likie Blixa want to post here? Even if she's not the target, the smell of the horse manure that passes for discourse from PP is overwhelming. And listen to Scottie.
Move the personal attacks to Telestial.
Three more are gone.
I think not.
You'd be wrong.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Heh. The biggest problem I have with posting here is That I Currently Do Not Have Time. I'm busier than usual this semester, so much so that I don't have time for my own writing projects, or even much thinking not directly related to current or future classwork.
My interest is pretty much limited to Utah history (as part of a recent scholarly interest in western americana). Contemporary debates about Mormonism are of interest in their relation to the way its history is framed. I've also got a doddering nostalgia for things from my Utah youth, flotsam and jetsam from pre-correlation Mormon culture. I know this is not everyone's cup of Postum.
Yes, sometimes I have found the climate here less than inviting, but I do think that to everything there is a season, turn, turn, turn, etc. Anyway, I've been absent from a lot of message boards in recent months because I prefer to avoid american presidential election commentary. Now that's more or less over, thankfully.
I'm also having fun with the Ignore feature. It makes a quick read through even quicker and you can always go back and read ignored posts if they seem crucial to the later discussion. It's funny, harmony, but PP is one person I don't have on Ignore because his comments are always so single shot its easy to avoid (or enjoy) them in small doses.
From the Ernest L. Wilkinson Diaries: "ELW dreams he's spattered w/ grease. Hundreds steal his greasy pants."
Re: We're bleeding and I think it's terminal
I've said it once on this thread, but I'll say it again in different words for the musically inclined. This board is losing people, in my opinion, because many of them (and newcomers thinking of hitching up) don't want to make the effort to try and communicate with tone deaf others. Simon and Garfunkel sang the line, "A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest, la, la, la, la." There are those, I would guess, that feel as though this board is possibly a waste of time for that reason.
If people feel like they're being listened to and that their opinion or POV really counts for something and has value, they'll make the effort to try and communicate.
It's true. Like it or lump it.
Regards,
MG

Like you lame ass threads are any more interesting??? Like the RfM one you posted about how upset your still-in-control-over-his-mormon-wife husband is upset because you got your daughter to play some old maid card game?
PUUUULLLLEEEEAAAZZZZEEEEEEEEAaaahhhhhhhhh.
Now that I think about it, are you the poster on RfM known as SuzieQ? Because your thread topics are very similar and BORING.
I am a channel on Shady Acres cable TV service. If you don't like what you see on my channel, then STOP VIEWING IT. Pretty simple.
Like the good Doc said, use the ignore feature. Nehor and Jersey Girl have all but disappeared from the view out my window.

Speaking of bleeding, I just lost my whole body here. I am now a Holy Ghost. I No longer have a body of flesh and bones and blood here. I am now a Personage of Spirit here.
