Before Gordo died, he talked about receiving a revelation while being home taught by the media Jew Larry King.

It was superb and played right into the hands of people who know better.

The interview was taped RIGHT BEFORE the tsunami struck on 12/26/2004 that killed over 250,000 people.

Larry asked if Gordo receives revelations.

This would have been the moment for god to put on the hand puppet, his only true and living prophet and have Gordo warn about the tsunami that was about to kill many innocent young children, women, and men.

I don't know, perhaps God was inundated with prayers over lost xmas toys or perhaps Gordo was not worthy at the time, but God did not speak through his wrinkled PR mouthpiece.

Instead, Gordo blathered on about how he received a revelation years before to build the mega'nacle.

More of Gordo's great prophetic moments are located on Deconstructor's site: http://i4m.com/think/leaders/Hinckley_lame.htm

Hypothetically speaking, let's say that Pres. Hinckley did and/or could give advance warning of the tsunami. Would that be fair to all these people?:

What kind of God would play favorites and save some, or select chosen few, from natural disasters while letting others suffer and/or die?

Me thinks it might cause more problems/issues (among nations and governments) if God told the prophet to broadcast the coming and timing of every natural disaster. The world would always be in a state of constant upheaval and disorientation and impossible preparations.

Possibly worse off than not knowing?

Talk about opening a can of worms or the proverbial Pandora's box.

You sure seem to expect the prophet to do some questionable things there bud.

I fail to see what you mean about how screwed the world might be if God's one and only true mouthpiece, the LDS church president, prophecied about terrible natural disasters, and people took his word for it and saved themselves, than if he bit his tongue and just let the natural disasters wipe out hundreds of thousands of people. Isn't it so typical that the explanation the believers must fall back on, and claim is actually the best one, is the one that is functionally, and visually, indistinguishable from there not actually being a real God after all?

Maybe if you explained it a little better I'd understand. Care to try?
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Do you watch the Weather Channel, MG?

I live in Oklahoma. Personally, I prefer to know if a twister is headed my direction so I can tuck my girls in the closet beneath the stairs.

And I suppose Jospeh interpreting Potiphar's dream only caused undo stress and preparation for the folks facing a seven year famine?

I'm not really buying your theory.

At the time of Joseph's interpretation of Pharaoh's two dreams, there were to be seven years of plenty in Egypt, followed by seven years of famine. Joseph was able to advise the Pharaoh on how to prepare for the famine and as a result gained the favour of the Pharaoh who promoted him to Prime Minister.

During the famine Joseph had to make key decisions. His acquisition of grain provisions enabled Egypt to withstand and survive the famine.

Joseph's story accounts for a pivotal period in the history of the Israelites.

If this tale found in the Old Testament is true at its core, then God did play favorites in this case. Did he let other sages or wise men/women in other areas of the world during this same chronological period in history know about upcoming natural calamities and/or disasters? I don't know that we have any written record of this being the case.

So coming back to Pres. Hinckley and Larry King. If Pres. Hinckley or any other modern prophet has the skinny on the up and coming natural disasters, shouldn't they put it in the paper or have Newsweek publish it? You'd think. OTOH, if the story of Joseph in the Old Testament is true:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions ... seph.shtml

...then it appears that God may step in only when the outcome of his intervention has a pivotal effect on the history and/or development of a covenant people. Why only in these cases...if this is indeed the case? Only God knows. And I'm one of those that will be asking this question right up front when and if I get to the pearly gates.

Oh, wait! I almost forgot about a recent incident of one of the Brethren being a "seer". Not all that long ago Elder Holland was allegedly speaking to a group of missionaries, or young men, or something like that. One of them asked the apostle why they couldn't have facial hair, since Jesus is frequently depicted as having a beard. Elder Holland replied, "The last time I saw the Savior, he didn't have a beard." (Or something like that.)

Anyways, the job of getting revelation has been ceded to FARMS. The Brethren don't do it any more.

During my sixyear "active investigator" period, I hadn't beard.

Hazard coincidence.

Neither does FARMS. So we're back to square one, with the heavens closed and the advice of men. No wonder the books are closed.

What?? What sanctions? I've never seen nor heard of any official discipline for having more than 1 earring. Have I missed something?
