No, I like watching you embarass yourself and the church with your nonsensical jibber jabber.

I do wonder who you think you're fooling here, any of you, who pretend like you don't watch porn.

We know better.

Regards.

My intent is not to embarrass myself or the church. I don't know that I am. Surely, I would not rely on your opinion to make a judgment call on that.

I don't watch porn. Is there something so abnormal about that?

Years ago, someone asked Jay Leno why he would do Doritos commercials, but not beer commercials. He responded that "you don't see people splattered all over the road because they ate too many Doritos".

Now, long term effects of eating too many Doritos aside, I've come to the conclusion that some people have a very hard time differentiating the actual consequences of certain acts and actions. Sure, pornography is bad and many people let it get out of hand [no pun intended], but to say that it is the "scourge" prophesied in D&C 45 might be taking it a little too far.

In fact, the internet could be looked at as almost a great experiment to see what happens to a civilization that becomes totally steeped in pornography. Based on what I've seen and heard from teenagers today, we are only a few generations away from pornography becoming totally available, discreetly and on demand to everyone over the age of 8 (and we could arguably already be there). So we don't need to argue over hypotheticals and forecasts. We just need to observe, and take stock of what has really happened to our civilization.

I would expect that we would find a population-wide trend of some people becoming addicted to pornography (unable to control their compulsion to constantly watch it, and becoming dangerous and destructive as a result), while the vast majority have a "casual interest" or no interest at all. If we include anyone who ever looks at pornography in our definition of "scourge", then it may be accurate. But if we only include those who have a destructive compulsion, it might be a smaller trend and not up to the demands of the "prophecy".

MG: Meaning a person can become desensitized and build up a tolerance of sorts in regards to porn. Chances are that individuals who are deeply into hard core porn did not get/arrive there overnight.

Scratch: And your evidence is....? Your gut feeling, once again?

...you are LDS, right?

MG: Yes. Are you? I haven't heard you say one way or the other.

Scratch: And why do you think that is?

Good question. How about an answer? Look up evasive in the dictionary, and there you are.

Gee did I say that?

You may as well have. If you didn't, what was the point of your post?

Quit acting like a dumbass.

My post was in response to your stupid post and was a mirror post.

A mirror post?

LOL

Funny how it sounded exactly like you sound a good portion of the time. Oh look, self assured and absorbed. Shocker.

Oh, it has to be posts that show you're self assured and arrogant "about how stupid nonbelievers are" and not just self assured and arrogant about everything in general?

Well, you got me there.

Something tells me... if you consider pornography to be a great scourge (so great that it was foretold in divine prophecy), then you are very likely an American.

Penn and Teller have a pretty good episode of BS that deals with "porn addiction". If you can handle vulgar language and boobies, I'd recommend it.

MG, no, I don’t consider porn to be harmful any more than I consider food to be harmful. The fact is that both can be bad if used improperly, to excess. I don’t care that people know I look at porn. Just like anything else, it has a time and a place. I don’t do it from work (I’m not sure what the hell people are thinking when they do that), and I don’t even do it daily. You might say I go through spurts (ar ar ar) of porn viewing.

As for whether there’s a correlation between porn acceptance and apostasy, I can’t improve on what Seth already said. Of course, for myself, it’s hard to say I’m an apostate from the church given that I never really believed it in the first place. If there was ever time when it made me feel dirty for looking at it, I attribute that directly to irrational teachings pumped into me and had more to do with disobeying my parents than it did looking at pictures of beautiful naked women.

I get slightly exasperated by this notion that it “exploits women.” Give me a break. These ladies make a tremendous amount of money doing what they do. If anything, it exploits men and their intrinsic desire to see naked women.

But I don’t even really think it exploits either sex. Women are getting paid, men are getting aroused. If either didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t.

As for the more distasteful forms of porn (kiddy, for instance) well, that’s illegal for a reason. Not all porn is equal, that’s for sure. You can’t just make blanket statements about it all, because those statements will only apply to some. It’s like equating junk food with salad and saying “food is a scourge.” It’s simply wrong.

The point of my post was to make a STUPID post about non believers which was as stupid as the one you made about believers.

As requested, I challenge you to find five posts of mine like this and like yours are mostly.

Lessee... What other biological imperatives do I have an addiction to...?

Well, I eat no less than six times a day. I had cashews for breakfast, an apple for a snack, string cheese for another snack, a sandwhich and salad for lunch, and am now snacking on popcorn. It's so bad, that I get hungry EVER DAY NOW. I know. I know. It's a disease.

I also drink. A LOT. I had coffee twice, water once, and three diet cokes. I know, man. I know. And it won't stop. I drink water all the way up to bedtime. It's a serious problem.

And I'm ashamed to admit, but I tend to pee and poop a lot. Yes. Daily. Argh.

Addiction is horrible.
