This makes one fewer LDS senators in the U.S. Senate. It looks like he got caught in Obama's popularity. I wonder whether his LDS affiliation worked against him this year because of Prop 8 in California?

I have heard that he is a decent guy. Unfortunately, Gordon Smith's son committed suicide a number of years ago.

I recall that his son was attending UVSC at the time. He had had serious depression problems for years. I don't recall anything about his being gay.

Or more than likely, Oregon's Senator (Soon to be Oregon's former Senator) Gordon Smith unfortunately got caught up in Mr. George W. Bush's Un-Popularity.
