Here is an intriguing Paragraph, From that recent Article:

Eve was given to Adam so that neither would be alone, but would be equal partners, President Packer stated, adding, "Any man who thinks he's going to the highest degree of glory without a woman at his side does not understand the gospel. Together, they control the fountain of life. While neither can generate life without the other, the mystery of life unfolds when these two become one.

Well, does this mean that a gay Man is still supposed to marry a woman, within the LDS Church???

Actually I was pretty gob-smacked.
The point is that BKP has managed to fit a fair bit of objectionable tripe into just one talk. Young people must have:

1. Blind obedience of, and uncritical adulation of the bretheren.
2. Intolerance of difference, and
3. No mercy for those who are different (because they are going to SUFFER for being different).

Then, 4. young people must PAY UP. First and most importantly, FEED the BEAST.

I am just stunned that people listen to this and don't just get up and walk out. Then I wonder what sort of person BKP is, to not only think this, but to preach it.

Finally, did they dismantle the PR department when GBH died, or what?

Hello Dana,

Yes, it does indeed look like that they did recently pretty very much dismantle their PR Department.

Of course he says that. He's one of the Brethren. It's a lot more difficult to run the church, if people actually put some thought into what the Brethren say, and then start thinking for themselves!

2. Intolerance of difference, and
3. No mercy for those who are different (because they are going to SUFFER for being different).

The only tolerance we allow is US... OUR differences. We demanded that we be allowed to be different and when the feds wouldn't allow it, we decided then and there that no one... no one was ever going to be allowed to be different from what we thought was US again.

It's called PRIDE and we've got it in spades; the higher up the food chain a person is, the more pride they have. Those of us barely hanging onto the bottom rung don't have much, just enough to keep the leaders on the TOP of the food chain telling us to get rid of it.

Then, 4. young people must PAY UP. First and most importantly, FEED the BEAST.

Otherwise, our leaders would actually have to work, and we know how they feel about that.

I am just stunned that people listen to this and don't just get up and walk out. Then I wonder what sort of person BKP is, to not only think this, but to preach it.

He's been called a grizzly bear by those who know him best. Makes ya just think he's so warm and caring, doesn't it?

Finally, did they dismantle the PR department when GBH died, or what?

By the time a few years has passed, we will not recognize much of what Pres Hinckley left us.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

How does this fit in with Gordon Hinckley telling members to 'tolerate your non Mormon neighbors'?

Pres Hinckley is dead, so he is not here to keep BKP in line anymore.

I think there is supposed to be 1000 years to sort out these problems in the millennium. I do recall an long-time single woman poster from another board who had been encouraged to marry a handicapped man. Instant ticket to the CK?

Given the pre-modern infant mortality rate (about 50% before age 5 in countries sophisticated enough to keep records. See Hrdy, Mother Nature), not to mention the amount of 'work' required for dead people who never left enough information for their work to be done, the dead work that living members will be able to knock off before the second coming would not make a drop in a bucket. If abortions and miscarriages count as spirits as well, the whole concept of having to have all the work done by mortals in the flesh would be a nonsense.

A while ago I saw an an estimate made by a statgeek based on existing temples and maximum operating capacity for 1000 years, which sadly I didn't keep a link for. It was insufficient to account for the work of ancestors of existing humans, let alone infant mortality, or pre-natal mortality.

Is this a new talk or one from 10 years ago? 20 years ago? They keep saying the same thing. It all comes back to tithing. Why do people need to attend 3 hour blocks 52 times a year for their entire lives to listen to the same sales pitch? Maybe if they can come up with new material the inactives might come back.

When I see the subject line, "Boyd K. Packer strikes back!", I am reminded of my favorite Star Wars movie:

Image

Actually, it's quite fitting, I think. Vader. Packer. Is there much difference? Well, maybe there is. Vader was once a good guy.

I wish I could say my favorite Star Wars character were a good guy, but I can't. Boba Fett is, hands down, the best Star Wars character of all. He's hot.

KA--Who has all the Star Wars figurines from every movie, still in the packaging. What a geek.
