When I was a lot younger the LDS Church had Gold and Green balls every year. A big dance that was one of the highlights of the year.
No more.
Kind of like no all-church sports events and so many other things that were looked forward to by a lot of us.
What happened? Did correlation do away with enjoyment?

Our stake still puts one of these on every year.

With the huge amount of growth in Utah, there are now 2 types of stakes. The old traditional stakes who own property and have leftover assets that still do the traditional things. Then there are the new stakes, mostly in newer suburbs. Since the Church no longer actively encourages these programs, many have fallen by the wayside due to lack of inertia and funding. But in the traditional sectors, they are still alive and well.

I am curious about these gold and green balls. Where did the name come from? Did it mean for young and old alike (just a guess)? If not eliminated everywhere, why did they cease to exist in some places - was it due to a shift in sending spare money into headquarters? I know one of these events has not occured in my area since I started going to Church.

Our Gold and Green Ball was the first Saturday in November. My daughter even put a dress on for it.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
