I was just informed by Scottie on the "Good Lord" thread that "we are no longer tolerating personal attacks on this board", and that such attacks will be censured. This came in response to me considering as shallow Runtus' judgement comparing the Church to Amway. I was assessing his argument, and somehow that was consitrued as "personal attack". This puzzled me, but what the heck....your board, your rules.

Yet, here we have an entire thread devoted to personally attacking Dr. Peterson, and it has been allowed to go on for some time now.

Furthermore, in the "Good Lord" thread today I was called "disgusting, condescending and bigoted" for holding up a sign during the protest at temple square several weeks ago, expressing gratitude to the Church for protecting families, societies, and children, and smiling and waving hello to people as they hurled insults at me and my faith.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. It's just that I wish to better understand how the no tollerance of personal attacks is supposed to work here. Could someone help me out?

I didn't expect you to be impressed, and, honestly, I don't care. But the fact remains that they named only one 2007 Fellow for the entire state and only one Lifetime Member in 2007, and that was me, and I was selected for my founding, direction, and editing of the Middle Eastern Texts Initiative, which you try to pretend scarcely exists.

Today (3 December '08) is the day agreed upon to start enforcing the revised board rules. As far as I understand, posts made prior to today are not subject to revision or movement under the revised rules.

(Hopefuly, a permamod can correct me on that point if I'm mistaken.)

Please feel free to PM me about any posts you feel consitute personal attacks (preferably with a link).

Post your CV that covers, say, the last ten years. That would end this discussion one way or another.

No it wouldn't.

You already know that I'm a professor of Islamic studies and Arabic. You already know about those two Islam-related articles mentioned previously on this thread. (There are many more, but they make my point.) You already know about the chapter on Muhammad in the brand-new book from Oxford University Press. You already know about my 2007 biography of Muhammad (which you say you despise). You know about the fourteen dual-language books published thus far in the Middle Eastern Texts Initiative, which I founded, which I direct, and which I edit. Yet you persist in pretending that I'm really just a Mormon apologist who doesn't do much Islam-related work. If twenty-three years of teaching Arabic, Arabic literature, Middle Eastern history, Islamic philosophy, Islamic humanities, and the like, accompanied by fifteen books on Islam and three articles on Islam, won't change your mind, adding some more articles into the mix isn't likely to make much of a difference. But if a fair-minded person happens to run across this message board and reads this thread, he or she will easily know what to make of things.

Mod. I find it interesting you let [DELETED] slur against me, the changing of my handle as a "personal attack", stand, but then you delete out my slur toward him. Is this an oversight, or preferential treatment?

by the way, I have a policy to not use pm's (as evidenced by the recent drama with Moniker), so that's why I'm posting in the open.
