JDL Advocates Excommunication of Israel-Bashing Buchanan Lover

It is sad when an average Jew supports a Jew hater. It is appalling for an Orthodox rabbi and public high school teacher to head the so-called organization "Jews for Buchanan." As unbelievable as it may seem, Nachum Shifren, a former Kahane follower, is now brazenly pushing the notorious Jew-hater Pat Buchanan for president. Shifren's condemnation of political and religious Zionism is an affront to everything Jewish. He lies when he says that Zionism has nothing to do with Judaism. Indeed, Rabbi Kahane, whom Shifren supposedly follows, believed that Zionism is the national liberation movement of the Jewish people. These are powerful reasons for a campaign against this apostate. Shifren is not known for his deep Torah thoughts. He's been noted as a surfer rabbi, who travels the world looking for the perfect wave. It seems as though he's got a little too much water on the brain.

Some people in the Jewish community are cautioning JDL not to take Shifren seriously because Buchanan's chances of becoming president are practically nonexistent. JDL disagrees. What makes Shifren so dangerous is he carries the title of rabbi and all the respect that it commands to those who are not on to his misdeeds. On the weekend of June 17th, on the sabbath, Shifren appeared in a videotape presentation to the UROC (United Republicans of California) convention at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Monrovia, Calif. For almost an hour Shifren propounded his bizarre theories on his life in Israel and his job in California as a high school teacher. Shifren states that Buchanan is the cure to all the social problems facing American youth and especially to the minority Hispanic community in Southern California. The rabbi who makes his living teaching AP Spanish at North Hollywood High School (which he ridiculously calls an inner city school) bemoans the fact that many of his students at North Hollywood High are just occupying time and space and have no moral foundation. He says that Pat Buchanan will reinstate his moral values as the basis of our society, and that this would have a tremendous effect on his students. While JDL may agree with a lot of what Shifren states concerning the educational standards in California and the lack of patriotism amongst minority students he teaches, we totally disagree that Buchanan is the cure all.

The JDL is not the only group that disapproves of this pompous rabbi. The state of Israel asked Shifren to leave the country, and for at least ten minutes on the aforementioned video Shifren badmouthed Israel. He claimed that it is a "Bolshevik-led" state, not a Western outpost. The so-called rabbi, before one hundred conservative, Republican Buchanan lovers, painted a picture of a socialist Israel, a G-dless Israel, and an Israel devoid of the ethics and values that are the heart of Judaism. Shifren advocates a total cut of all aid to the Jewish state. Shifren may believe he is echoing the late Rabbi Meir Kahane, who once advocated a cut in the economic aid to the Jewish state while maintaining the military package, but Shifren is a poor imitator of Rabbi Kahane, a very poor imitator indeed.

Shifren claims he read Buchanan's book, "A Republic, Not An Empire" and finds no antisemitism in his words. He challenges anyone to prove Buchanan is a Jew-hater. Shifren doesn't hesitate to tell his audience that Buchanan is the modern day savior of not only America but indeed the Jewish state. Shifren can not explain why Buchanan, a man who admires Hitler, calling him a "man of great courage" should be supported by any Jew or right thinking person.

JDL recently revealed Shifren's home number to all who are interested in finding out what motivates a Jew to become a traitor. We have now cordially removed it at the request of Shifren's former wife. She claims that Nachum has remarried and no longer resides at that location. JDL believes that every Jew, no matter what his or her station or affiliation in life is, should have absolutely nothing to do with this traitor. The JDL will be waging a campaign against any Jew who supports a potential murderer of his people. The late Rabbi Meir Kahane would roll over in his grave if he found out that his former driver Nachum Shifren is a follower of the monster Pat Buchanan.

Shifren's response to JDL's allegations and the fact that JDL gave out his private home phone number on the JDL hotline has been shocking. Instead of him facing these allegations, he has his wife call the JDL line and threaten the league with informing local and Federal authorities, and, believe it or not, the ACLU. The Torah itself, as the rabbi knows, admonishes each and every Jew, "may the informant have no hope." If Shifren were truly a good intentioned person, he wouldn't have his wife threaten the league; He would take Irv Rubin to a Jewish court of law known as a Beth Din. This Jewish court is the kosher way of doing things. Of course, Shifren seems to have lost his Jewish bearings. JDL isn't afraid of a Gentile court, and we would most welcome a Jewish rabbinical court to decide who is right and who is wrong on this most important issue.
