This board exists for the purpose of discussing Mormonism. It is reasonable to see Mormon apologetics a major part of that topic, and DCP has been and continues to be a major figure in that enterprise. There are indeed many people who once posted here but no longer do so: perhaps we may surmise that they have, in your sense "mov[ed] on from the LDS Church in a positive way."

In any case, for those who do continue to post here (as you and I both do) to abstain scrupulously from any further criticism of DCP is not, I think essential to our receiving a positive assessment of our mental or emotional well-being. DrW, for instance, seems pretty happy in himself, as do a number of others.
I am not sure what we disagree on Chap, but I want to thank you for raising these valid points. I also notice that you have done a better job than any of us of avoiding impugning anyone's motives or questioning their psychology, etc.

To endeavor to be clearer, let me say that I have not been talking about scrupulously avoiding any further criticism of DCP's activities as an apologist. If DCP writes something that is unconvincing, we should argue against it. If he misrepresents a critic, we are within our rights to disagree and articulate our own views forcefully and persuasively.

What I am taking issue with is the personal nature of the years-long barrage on DCP. I am not sure what his physical appearance or his teaching evaluations have to do with his apologetics. I don't know what tracking down his Amazon.com reviews or those of his progeny have to do with his apologetics. There are so many demeaning, hateful, juvenile, and creepy things that pass for criticism of his apologetics on this board that I am not surprised that the board itself ends up looking kind of unhinged in the eyes of others outside of our little world, and sometimes also to those who post here.

Good Lord, Kishkumen has really lost it over this issue. It's been pages of bad reasoning, deflection, passive aggressive insults, and hypersensitivity. It's almost like he's providing an object lesson with regard to how people react to other people with whom they disagree, and being an assshole to others isn't limited to ex-Mormons 'attacking' St. Peterson. Seriously, the level of personal butthurt on display by Kishkumen is astonishing. If he wants to act as some sort of virtue shield for those clowns then more power to him. Sad to see someone like him falling on his sword for Peterson.

As I was saying . . . .

Ditto. You're being foolish and you're clearly overcompensating for something. Good luck with that.

You can probably guess how much I value your advice, but then I am sure the feeling is mutual.

I love it when you use big words.

You repeatedly rely on assigning extreme views to your opponents, when there is no actual evidence that they actually hold those views. You also over rely on hyperbole. It just makes you look like an a**hole; always has.
