FP adds "Virtue" to Young Women theme ....

I'm guessing the general YW presidency knew about this first and didn't need a letter. They have to help rewrite some of the course material based on this and distribute this to the Stake and Ward levels.

I'm sure they did, too, but also many if not all of the GA's, who were among the addressees. There should be no need for us to "guess." The Gen'l YW presidency should be among the addressees.

Why? The letter is not for them, they already know. As some kind of incredibly vague show of support that only a critic would look for? They sent it to the rest of the General Authorities and the leadership of the wards and stakes SPECIFICALLY because they did not know. That is the purpose of the memo. To inform. That's it. I'm guessing the YW's Presidency has known about and discussed this for months. WHY would they get sent the memo? To make sure their feelings aren't hurt? To kill trees? I don't get it.

Would you feel the same way if the Sunday School General Presidency wasn't on a letter announcing a change in manuals?

Not when it comes to young women. Modesty is among the most harped-about topics to that particular group.

I only remember one lesson about it in the manual (and it was tied in with other topics) last time I saw it. Hardly harping? I got told to be modest once a year too. Maybe individual YW leaders harp on it but I don't think in my ward that's the case. My little sister is a laurel and almost done though and I'll ask her next time I visit.

That is the purpose of the memo. To inform.

I'm sure some on the list were already "informed," but they still got the letter. Such a letter, under the signatures of the FP, is often the final official word -- the Gen'l YW presidency should have been on it, regardless of what they already knew.

3 or 4 extra copies would hardly be "kllling trees." Face it, you don't have a good reason to explain away this obvious snub.

I wasn't referring to the number of modesty lessons in the manual, but other types of meetings like firesides, young women activities, YW conference, etc., and yes, it is very much harped.

You would know this how? I'm assuming you weren't running the Young Women activities or conferences and unless you were frequently asked to speak on modesty to Young Women I doubt you'd be sure on that either.

I have 2 daughters who both went through the program. Modesty was a recurring theme. The last daughter graduated 7 years ago; I have no reason to believe that all of a sudden 7 years ago, they stopped discussing modesty regularly.

Personally I think the addition of virtue isn't sinister in any way. I just wish they incorporated it into the young men's program and emphasized it equally. It certainly couldn't hurt the young men to hear it as often as the young women do.

The Gen'l YW presidency can't be among the addressees. That would put them on the same level as men, and we can't have THAT!

I've been very much involved in the Young Men program in different wards, and worked closely with YW leaders in meetings and correlating activities, etc. This put me in a position to hear and observe activities, as well as comments by the young women. Trust me, what happens in the YW program is not a secret. Modesty is a huge topic for them
