Behold, pay tithing during this recession

Post by _Home Teacher »

Good evening brothers and sisters.

Guess what? It is that time of year again. Yes, tithing settlement is upon us. The brethren set aside this time every year to give members the opportunity to declare a full tithe, or to make a payment so they can declare themselves full tithe payers. This is a wonderful and marvelous blessing to us all, to declare to our Bishop and the Lord our faithfulness to his commandment to pay a full tithe.

In these trying economic times, it is more important than ever to pay tithing, for tithing is the key to financial success. I have a testimony of tithing, yea, even do I believe in tithing with every fiber of my being. I once was very poor, and didn’t make very much money. Then I started paying tithing, and now I am rich. I know many people in my ward who are very poor and remain very poor. I bear testimony that these people probably do not pay a full tithing.

We have been promised that the Lord will bless us if we pay tithing. Why would anyone risk not being blessed by the Lord, especially in these difficult economic times? Whenever someone is having trouble making ends meet, I always challenge them to pay tithing, even if they aren’t members of the church. We are promised that if we pay tithing we will be blessed, and the windows of heaven will pour down blessings upon our heads. I bear my testimony that I think that promise goes for non-members too. I even carry around tithing slips and envelopes for my non-member friends and family. It is a wonderful and marvelous missionary opportunity during these tough economic times to offer our non-member neighbors a way out of their economic woes. Yea, I bear my testimony unto the world that tithing will bring great blessings to those who faithfully pay. But wo be unto those who pay grudgingly, for if ye do, it shall be as if ye paid not tithing, and ye may as well flush the money down thy toilet. Wherefore, pay ye thy tithing with gladness in thy heart.

These things I share with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

That's interesting, HT, I didn't know non-members could pay tithing. The times, they are a changin', I guess.

Home teacher if I decide to repent later on in life, will I have to pay tithing on all the investments I made with the tithing money I should have paid? I know some people that just started paying on the net for about a year after they retired. The bishop said they were still going to the Celestial kingdom just the same as if they'd paid their whole life. Is that true?

I know one man that refused to ever pay tithing, but his parents were such faithful believers that he still went to the Celestial kingdom. Did you ever hear about this?

Oh that was another question, do people who pay on the net go to the same Celestial kingdom as people who pay on the gross?
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

What if I donate 10% of my income to charity? Am I covered?

Or, say I decide to place the 10% entirely in the fast offerings category instead of in the tithing box, would that be OK?

You said "tithing/tithe" 17 times. That has to be a record.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Thank you for sharing that message with us today, home teacher. I feel that you are one of the choice spirits our Father in Heaven placed on this earth to sojourn during these most difficult times.

As we celebrate the birth of Christ this year, let him be first on our Christmas shopping lists. Let us be generous in our tithes to him, and from what we might have left shall we take for the giving of gifts to each other.

I too can testify to the power of tithing. Last year, a close relative of ours, a good and conservative man -- an executive by trade -- found himself out of work. Without a job, he expected to lose one of his homes in the mountains of Colorado which for years has served as a retreat for family and close friends for a couple weeks during the christmas season. He expressed to me his concern one night during a private phone conversation. I asked him if he'd been paying his tithing. he replied that he had and would do so willingly, no matter what the consequences. I assured this good brother, and relative, that things would work out.

The Lord opened the windows of heaven for this man. Within two weeks, a contract had opened in the City Creek area for a project relating to a most significant building project, and he was selected as a consultant. Because of this fantastic opportunity, he not only saved his home, the one in Colorado, but was able to expand it with an additional wing. And because this position allowed him to work remotely, he was able to enjoy an additional two weeks in that home. Some of the brethren and myself were able to visit and enjoy a meal there one evening.

God will not be mocked, his rewards and punishments are very real.

This by far the dumbest promise Church musters. No amount of your testimonkey will make a dent in any living person's life.
I however suggest, if you guys have some extra money to blow, go play poker, blackjack. At least then you will equal opportunity to multiply your money, of course the odds are close to zero for you getting a RoyalFlush, four of a kind, it is certainly better bet than handing your hard earned cash to blood-suckers.

Yeah, it was Helen Mar Kimball's brother, because, you know, a promise is a promise.

Oh that was another question, do people who pay on the net go to the same Celestial kingdom as people who pay on the gross?

Yeah, but it won't be quite as awesome.

No, because charities may feed the poor, and clothe the naked, but they don't hold any keys. It's all about the keys. Keys cost money, so you gotta send it to the man with the keys.

But the scriptures say we can be just like Him. It shouldn't matter if I pay since I'm 8 or 88, right? The prodigal son got everything his father had just like the one who stayed and worked, right?

Tommy if I pay my tithing could I ever get as good a job as the Lord has given you. Did you ever work for anyone but the Church? I guess we were all just less obedient in the pre-existence and we're paying for it now. It couldn't possibly be because the people distributing the money inevitably distribute it their own way and seem to always distribute the hard work to someone else could it?
