Polygamist Apologists blurring the Mormon line even more

Post by _collegeterrace »

Those pesky FLDS just won't go away!

Check out this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmhjgaB2Hi8

He makes a great presentation, not that I agree with, but why is he wrong and the Woodruffites right?

in my opinion, both groups came from Joe & Co. Any following that began with Joseph Smith is wrong.

However, this is great. With these "mainstream" polygamists trying to show the good, normal, and non warren-jeffs polygamy and attempting to legalize it, it can only mean one thing.

This isn't an FLDS guy. It's Truman Madsen, Joseph Smith's hagiographer. He's LDS.

Thinking about it...

That polygamy stuff just sort of drops out the bottom when one starts to contemplate 'forever families', and remarried widowers.

Just think how messy it could have gotten if women could have multiple marriages as well!

OK they can have multiple marriages too, but have to 'choose' their Alpha male in the CK. Men don't have to bother about making such difficult choices. I feel sorry for the woman who first marries her 'true love', who then dies tragically young leaving her a young mother, so she marries a 'wonderful' man with whom she has 8 more children. Bugger that, having to make such a choice for eternity. Forever families, the gift that keeps on giving.

Actually, the woman in your hypothetical gets no choice in the CK (so long as the sealing to her 1st husband hasn't been cancelled). She and the 8 kids from the 2nd husband automatically go to the 1st husband in the eternities ... thus sayeth the Church Handbook of Instructions. Scary stuff.

My sister in law's dilemma. And after 30 years, it's still unresolved.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

It will all be worked out in the spirit world.

This isn't scary. You just don't understand. The Celestial Kingdom is awesome. Everything in the Celestial Kingdom is awesome too. In fact, it's more than awesome: it's wicked awesome. Since such dilemmas as this are put off until the Celestial Kingdom, without any necessity now to make sense of what possible outcome might be found, all we have to do now is be content that when all is said and done, it's all going to be just plain awesome, and there will not be any regret or any of that negative stuff.

In fact, the 2nd husband of 30 years is going to find some "sweet spirit" who never got married on Earth despite all her best efforts, and it turns out that the Celestial version of her looks like a combination of all of the very best attributes of Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie, and they're going to ride off and live happily ever after bearing billions, yea, even trillions of their own Celestial spirit offspring, so he'll be OK with his 8 kids living with the first husband and his former wife. And the mother of these 8 kids will be overjoyed to rekindle her romance with her original husband, and bear him trillions of spirit offspring into all eternity. Everyone will be happy and pleased with the results, because it'll be the Celestial Kingdom, where everything is awesome.

What it does is allow man to avoid accountability for stupid decisions, theology, etc.

That's a great clip. I love the serene setting and chirping birds, and the almost hypnotic tone of Madsen's voice.

He makes Hyrum's story sound so logical and normal, until you wonder what might have happened if it were a woman who had been married to two men instead of Hyrum being married to two women. If it were a woman with two husbands, Joseph's reply might well have been "It will be worked out in the spirit world." It's too bad that couldn't have been his response to Hyrum as well.

Truman also hits the "having seed" and "being a father" points pretty hard. I guess he doesn't buy into the "platonic sealing theory" being bandied about by some defenders of the faith.
