My most memorable Christmas Eve story:
When my oldest boys were 6, 8, and 10, they were football crazy. So for their Santa present that year, I ordered 3 sets of play helmet and pads from Sears. The box was delivered a week before Christmas, but I didn't open it up. I put the box in the storeroom and went about my business. Midafternoon on Christmas Eve, I decided to sneak out and open it up and get it unpacked, so it wouldn't take long to set up the Santa presents after the kids had gone to bed.
SHOCK! There were only 2 sets! Instant panic! I consulted with Sweet Pickle and he said to start calling around the stores to see if anyone had another set. I sat on the phone for half an hour before I found a toy store that was 1) open and 2) had a set. They were closing (it was 4 o'clock by then), but the owner offered to take it home with him and we could pick it up at his house. We drove like maniacs the 45 miles to his house, gave him the check (that set cost what the other 2 had together but we didn't care), and took our box home.
So with a little help from the Santa-helper store owner, all 3 boys got their football gear for play in.
Anyone else have a Christmas Eve story?
